20-year-old college student Jordan Dinsmore from South Carolina recently got the scare of her life.
She just arrived back to her student apartment at 1 am when she was ambushed by three young men. It started as a robbery and the men took all of the possessions and cash she had on her, and even threatened her at gunpoint. Clearly, the three men had more horrible intentions.
Presumably, they wanted to steal Jordan’s car as well, but none of the three men were able to drive it because of the stick shift mechanism.
At that point, two of the three criminals held Jordan hostage in her own car and made her drive to the nearest gas station.
The third man had already escaped at this point.
Then, the two commanded her to step out of the car and use her card to get as much money as she could out of an ATM. Aside from the money, they also insisted on sexually violating her afterward.
Luckily, Jordan recalled a story about her mom and one live-saving tip she told her.
Her mom told her to always be strong, to always fight back, and most importantly, to never allow criminals to get you alone.
“I thought back to my mom. She was almost a victim of assault when she was in college, and she fought back and fought the man off, and I thought you know, I’m going to be strong like my mom, I’m going to get myself out of this,” she mentioned in an interview with WCBD News 2.
“My mom always told me, you know, don’t let them get you alone, because then you have no help, you have no hope for passerby’s to see you or hear you, and you have no help to get out,” Jordan told to ABC News 4.
Jordan needed to take her seat belt off in order to operate the ATM, but she had no intention of putting that seat belt back on. Instead, she managed to jump right out of the car while it was still driving.
“I just kind of thought in my head, ‘Do it, do it, do it,’ and then the next thing I know, my hands were on the handle, I was opening the door and I was staring at the pavement.”
Now that Jordan was out in the open, she could finally look for help. Two cars passed by as if nothing happened, but a good Samaritan in the third car helped Jordan get back on her feet and get her to safety.
“They were in a moving vehicle, without a driver, and a 20-year-old girl just outsmarted you,” she told to reporters. “I wish I could’ve seen their faces at that moment, so that they knew that I might have been a victim, but I was not victimized.”
The two young men were later arrested by the police, and it was made public that they were just 15 and 17 years old. They’re no strangers to the authorities as they’ve been involved with several other crimes close by.
Jordan is currently majoring in Criminal Justice. According to her mom, the brave 20-year-teen is now considering to become a victim’s advocate after her awful experience with this group of criminals.
