We’re used to seeing young people blow us away with their skills on the football field, but this is something else entirely! The incredibly talented men and women who make up this drum and bugle corps deserve a whole lot of respect and recognition after one of their world-class performances blew every member of the audience away, complete with a stunning closer to end the show in style!
The Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps is a non-profit youth performing arts organization based out of Canton, Ohio.
It’s also one of the best junior drum and bugle corps in the world, competing at the very highest level and even winning the DCI World Class Championship back in 2016, which is basically the biggest prize a junior drum and bugle corps can ever win.
But we’re not looking at the Bluecoats’ 2016 performance here. Instead, we’re delving a little deeper into the archives to shine the spotlight on their remarkable 2014 performance.
At that event, they were only able to take home the second place prize, but they were still the big winners in many people’s eyes after their phenomenal display. The show began with the Bluecoats’ talented performers spreading out across a football field.
Marching, dancing, waving flags, and playing instruments in perfect harmony, it’s simply extraordinary to watch the Bluecoats in action.
There are dozens of them, but they move together as one, with each member having trained hard and memorized the routine to perfection.
They seem to almost flow like water across the football field, moving with amazing precision and nailing every little detail from start to finish.
The theme of their performance was ‘Tilt’, so they incorporated ramps, seesaws, and even tilted their own bodies while performing to fully embrace the theme and surprise the audience. But even after putting on a truly world class show, they still had one last surprise in store.
Right at the end of their performance, as the crescendo builds up and the performers take their places, we see one drummer suddenly sprinting across the football field, heading straight for one of the many ramps that have been lined up. A group of his friends are waiting to catch him as he dramatically leaps off the top of the platform and into their arms, before they all fall down theatrically on the ground.
At the end of the show, we can hear the crowd’s excited response and everyone gets to their feet and cheers for the Bluecoats! If you check out the video below, you might think it sounds like they’re booing, but they’re actually saying “Blue!” very loudly and dragging out the vowel sound.
It’s called “Blooing” in the drum and bugle world and it’s a popular way of cheering for the Bluecoats whenever they perform.
It’s a shame they didn’t win the top prize in 2014 after such a flawless performance, but they did claim top spot in 2016 to win their first-ever championship and have finished in the top three of five of the last six events too!
