When you see a firetruck with its lights on, it’s usually not good news.

In fact, most people see firetrucks so often that they don’t even think anything of it when one passes them. One fire department in Colorado was determined to change that.

The Sterling Colorado Fire Department is made up of a bunch of festive firefighters. They wanted to add a little Christmas cheer to their town and came up with a fun way to do it. Instead of just decorating the firehouse or sticking a wreath on the front of the firetruck, they came up with something truly amazing.

The found a way to make their ambulance lights sync with the song “Carol of the Bells.”

The trucks are all parked in the station, but you can still see the lights and hear the music well. The firefighters made a video from the front of the station and then shared it on their Facebook page and YouTube.

What they thought would help make their town more festive ended up being viewed by millions of people and going viral online. Who would have thought that some firefighters could do something this creative and fun? Everyone loves the video. The video on their Facebook page has received a lot of comments from people who have viewed it.

One viewer said:

“Our 26 year old son, Roman, has multiple physical and intellectual disabilities including autism, and he LOVES firetrucks. This is his first viewing of your wonderful video (the first of many times he watched it!). I thought you might enjoy seeing the joy you brought others. Thank you and Merry Christmas!!”

Some people wondered how they accomplished such an impressive show.

A man asked,

“So me and my woman was discussing. She thinks that all the lights were synced into a program to turn them on and off. I was saying there was someone in each truck turning the lights on a off. Which was it?”

While it may look like fun, it actually took a lot of time and hard work.

Captain Jason Bostron said:

“My guys helped by running the truck lights in different groups, which took about seven minutes. I spent over 10 hours editing it to get the final video set to the music. We are a young department and wanted to do something ‘untraditional’ so our Lieutenant Kinoshita chose a dubstep song. The video has definitely gone viral, just from local news, it has over three million views.”

It seems like people just can’t get enough of it.

The fire department is proud to be able to make so many happy. Everyone in town enjoys looking at it, and thanks to social media, millions of people from out of town get to enjoy it, too.

Everyone is already wondering what the fire department will come up with for the next holiday or at least next Christmas. It looks like they may have started a new tradition for their town and themselves. It sure will be hard to top this show. They better start planning now if they want to make it just as successful.

Maybe other fire departments will follow suit and try to do similar light shows.

Who knows, maybe even the police departments will get involved. It looks like Sterling, Colorado, has a great fire department that is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty.
