This group of kids was given the choice between a gift for themselves, or a gift for their parents. Their responses will bring tears to your eyes.
With so many people focused on receiving for the holidays, UP TV decided to do an experiment on giving. They filmed a group of kids from the Atlanta, Boys & Girls Club, making a very tough decision.
They were asked both what they wanted for Christmas, and what they wanted for their parents. All of the kids quickly answered, but the next question was a lot more difficult.
The team brought out both presents, but there was a catch. They had to pick either the one for them or the one for their parents.
When they gave them the ultimatum, the kidโs answers surprised everyone, including UP TV. Without any hesitation, each child selected the gifts for their parents and their reasoning touched my heart.
Not one single kid selected the gift for themselves, in fact, most of them didnโt even have to think about it. One kid immediately selected the gift for his family and stunned producerโs when they asked: โwhy?โ
โBecause legos donโt matter, your family matters. Not legos, not toys, your family. So itโs either family or legos? And I choose family.โ He said.
Every kidโs answer was profound, and they all made a โhard decision,โ seem easy.
Another little girl explained that she always got presents, but her mom didnโt get much, so sheโd rather get her the mother the gift.
โI get gifts every year from my family, but mom donโt get anything.โ Said another kid.
โif I get the laptop my mom will lose something. She helps me when Iโm sick, she helps me with my homework.
โ They look out for me and do stuff for me, so I need to give back to them.โ Said another little boy.
In the end, UP TV had a surprise for the kids who chose to give.
The kids were beside themselves, many of them began to cry tears of joy when they realized what was going on. Outside of the room, their parents waited for them and were moved by their selfless choices.
What a considerate bunch of children, they denied themselves in order to get something for their families, and it paid off. Their virtuous choice, shows us whatโs important during this holiday season. After all, they say the best gift you can get, is to give.
