What is line dancing?

Line dancing is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence in steps that a group of people dances in one or more lines or rows. They all face each other or the same way and execute the dance at the same time, with no physical contact with each other.

Line dancing became popular in the 1970s and is mainly done to country/western music. There is a lot of debate if it came from contemporary disco or historical folk dances, but there are many types of line dancing, so they probably came from both! In the south, if you go to a bar, you’re more than likely going to see some line dancing.

The ladies in this video sure know what they’re doing.

The video starts with the song starting and the ladies doing a synchronized dance with mainly their feet. They’re all wearing matching outfits, and it fits the theme very well, primarily because of their cowgirl hats and their cowgirl boots.

Although most of the dancing is used with their feet, they are taking some intervals to tap their foot with their hand. They also do a lot of clapping, but when they’re not clapping, they all rest their hands in the same position, even that is synchronized like their footwork.

When they finish a sequence, the ladies switch directions.

With line dancing, when you finish a certain amount of steps, you turn to the other direction and repeat it, and these ladies do it flawlessly. Line dancing is also great to do because you can do it with anyone and not have to touch them, which can sometimes be pressuring.
