Chase Goehring was your average shy kid not too long ago. However that all changed when he began to take music lessons.

Learning other artists’ songs on guitar and piano eventually progressed to Goehring writing his own music.

“Just being able to express your emotions through music… I thought that was really cool. And I guess that kind of led into songwriting. It all happened at once,” the singer-songwriter shared on his first appearance on America’s Got Talent in 2017.

At the young age of 21-years-old and from the small town of Nolensville, Tennessee, Goehring was already making his way to the stage to impress Mel B, Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, and Heidi Klum.

Fun fact: just four years prior, in 2013, Goehring appeared on The X Factor after winning a YouNow singer-songwriter contest.

“I actually didn’t plan on auditioning for The X Factor. I was participating in a younow.com singer/songwriter competition and one of the judges worked with Sony Music,” Goehring shared in an interview with Live Starring You. “She was like, ‘We think you would be a great addition to the show.’ So a couple weeks later I ended up in Long Island, New York and auditioned for the judges.”

Now, four years later, Goehring was back and ready to show the world just how great of a songwriter he is.

As he introduced himself to the four iconic judges, he seemed slightly quiet and shy, but definitely confident.

He explained that he would be performing an original song and the meaning behind it. “It’s called ‘Hurt.’ It’s basically about a girl who is in a bad relationship and I’m kind of like ‘hey, you’re not in a good position right now and I can really help you out if you just give me a chance.'”

His performance started off pretty wholesome. “Hey baby, you don’t have to live this way…” he began to sing on top of simple guitar strums. But as he warmed up and got more into the song, something amazing happened.

He took everyone by surprise and made a complete 360-degree turn and started rapping over the acoustic guitar. He found his rhythm seamlessly and made singing sound so damn easy.

With his red hair, acoustic guitar, and major rapping skills, one could even say he has the potential to be the next Ed Sheeran! Maybe it is his long lost brother?

After his performance, the crowd was so fired up that they even gave him a standing ovation.

Goehring even got Simon Cowell to stand and clap, and if anyone knows Cowell, they know that he is not the easiest one to impress.

“Speechless,” Mel B began as Goehring let out a huge sigh of relief.

“You know, Chase, we look for these moments that excite us and surprise us and when you started rapping I thought, ‘Oh my God, this is a unique sound I will never forget,'” Howie shared.

Heidi added, “You’re super talented, I love your confidence, I love your song, and you’re also very cute on top of it.”

Cowell added maybe the best comment of all, “It was bloody fantastic! You did something I genuinely wasn’t expecting and it felt real and you’re sincere and you’re a great writer. Thank you for coming on our show, this is amazing.”

“You’re a very smart songwriter,” Mel B continued. “You’ve taken a topic that isn’t really spoken about that often and on top of that, the way you did it was just spot on. That song is going to mean so much to so many people.”
