Have you ever heard someone say that a stray animal followed them home? Well check out what happens when one cat follows a young couple during their evening walk.
The challenge
The video opens with the small orange and white furred cat entering the shot. Syl, a woman in a blue top, is leaning over giving the cat attention and affection.
Syl’s boyfriend explains that she wants to keep the cat as theirs. He clearly doesn’t want to keep a stray, but he offers a challenge to his girlfriend. They will keep the cat if it follows them all the way home during their walk.
Undeniably lovable
Syl’s boyfriend clearly doesn’t want the cat. He does mention concerns over the cat’s cleanliness and health. His challenge was clearly a way to meet his girlfriend halfway so that he doesn’t upset her with an outright refusal.
But we hear his tone change throughout the video. The man seems surprised and impressed as the cat keeps up with the couple. He even slows to a stop to look back and make sure the cat is still keeping up.
He even rubs the cat’s belly and calls it cute. Syl has clearly fallen for the cat, but it’s cute seeing how fast her boyfriend follows suit.
Close calls
There are several points in the video when it looks like the cat has lost interest in Syl and her boyfriend. They pass by one house with a loud shutting door that grabs the cat’s attention. They also pass a car that the cat disappears under. Syl’s boyfriend calls it out each time it looks like the cat has moved on, only to be proven wrong moments later. This cat has found their new humans and wants to stick around.
The cat’s tenacity and determination continues to impress. Syl’s boyfriend can hardly believe it, as he repeatedly admits:
“I can’t believe this cat. I’m actually surprised.”
The finish line
Syl’s boyfriend eventually points out how close they are to their apartment building. You can see the glowing lights in the distance. He still wonders if the cat will follow them all the way home, but it’s hard to imagine it will quit now.
Syl and her boyfriend talk about the cat and it’s clear that the mood is high. He still has his concerns over the cat’s health, but he’s a lot more positive and welcoming then at the start of the video. But they still have one last hurdle to go.
Crossing the threshold
They finally reach the apartment parking lot. The cat is so close to a new home, As they approach their apartment door, Syl walks inside and tries to coax the cat to join her. But it looks like the cat isn’t interested.
When it looks like all hope is lost, Syl suggests that her boyfriend join her inside. He does so joking that “Because it’s me that it wanted all along.” The cat then joins them inside the apartment taking its first steps into the lives of its new humans.
The video then follows Syl as she walks through to her apartment door, with the cat following and then leaping inside. Syl smiles and offers her boyfriend a thumbs up.
What happens next?
Syl’s boyfriend films the cat’s first explorations of the house. Even though he complains that the cat will make a mess, he can’t help but rub the cat and welcome it to its new home.
He then looks to the camera and explains that they’ll need to get a litter box and other necessary cat supplies. He looks so pleased with what happens even if he makes one last joke about the situation.
In the video comments section, he explains that Syl and him took the cat to a nearby shelter. They wanted to do the responsible thing and make sure that the cat wasn’t chipped and owned or missing from someone else’s family. Other comments that follow The Pun Guys’ Facebook confirmed that the cat now belongs to them. What an unexpected ending to an evening walk.
