Special. That’s the first word that comes to mind when you see this cabin. Named the Gingerbread House, this cute property has the perfect combination of beauty and magic.
The place, which looks like something you would find in a fairy tale book, is located in the countryside of Maui, Hawaii, and it’s only ten minutes from the beach.
Jimi Hendrix approved
Besides the great location, it also has a fascinating history: it is a remodeled cottage from the 1930s that Jimi Hendrix stayed in when he was filming Rainbow Bridge on Maui, back in 1970.
This adorable cabin, which is available as a vacation rental on Airbnb, is a perfect romantic hideaway where you can discover some of the most amazing landscapes in the country, explore the gorgeous Hawaiian beaches, or even get a massage or go on a guided labyrinth walk nearby.
The perfect abode
Some of the most remarkable features of the cabin are the high cathedral ceilings and the large windows, a combination that allows the sunshine to brighten up the place and bring it to life.
Not to mention the incredible experience of reclining on the sofa and being able to see the treetops all the time. Can’t you imagine it already?
Up to four people can sleep in the studio, which is equipped with a queen-sized bed and a fold-out sofa. We wonder if they had those in fairy tales for when the seven dwarfs decided to stay over to avoid getting attacked by any wolves or evil Queens…
A magical meal
The kitchenette is ideally set for those who want to be able to prepare simple meals. It has granite counters, a toaster oven, a microwave, a coffee maker, countertop burners and a full sized fridge. Those are definitely a part of every modern fairy tale!
When it’s dinnertime, a cute dining set is waiting at the front of the property, where guests can have a meal with the enchanting view of the gardens.
And more
The property also has a spacious and robust bathroom, decorated with woodwork and custom tiling. Its walls are scattered with blocks of privacy glass that brighten the wood-paneled appearance. With the large custom-built, tiled shower there is a great (and noticeable) modern contrast to the rather rustic atmosphere of the house.
The picture of the incredible American guitarist, Jimi Hendrix, hanging there is just a reminder of the fact he stayed in the exact location back in the 1970s. The details of his stay are left to speculations. For example, were any of his songs inspired by this lovely place? Did he write any while he was there? Unfortunately, we’ll never know.

Let’s not forget about the garden. Besides having an organic vegetable garden, there is also a sprawling orchard with a variety of fruit trees. Just to illustrate how many options there are, here are those listed on Airbnb: “papaya, banana, passion fruit, coffee, plantains, oranges, mac nuts, avocado, lychee, mango, guava, grapefruit, tangerines, lemons, coconuts, and noni.”
Those visiting also have access to the adjacent property, a home named The Sacred Garden that is just as beautiful as Gingerbread House.
