Our hard-working bus drivers are nothing short but heroes.

They tirelessly work for the public commuters day in and out.

They give us a safe, affordable, and convenient mode of transportation whether we are on our way to work or going back home.

But apart from being behind the wheel, our dear bus drivers are also ready to go above and beyond their duty.

In fact, there have been a couple of incidents where bus drivers saved both animals and humans.

And they’ve been doing it for the past years – driving, rescuing, and saving.

I don’t know about you but I think we should start calling them “heroes.”

Before the clock even ticks at 8 in the morning on December 22, 2018, MCTS (Milwaukee County Transit System) bus driver Irena Ivic was already on duty to their loyal commuters.

On her way, Irena spotted something that literally caught her attention. Although drivers should always have their “eyes on the road”, what she saw couldn’t afford to be ignored.

There was a lost baby running on the side of the road on a freeway overpass near 4th and Mitchell in Milwaukee. She was only wearing a onesie and a diaper in the freezing weather of below freezing point.

Irena wasted not another second and stopped the bus, jumped out, and ran as fast as she could to rescue the little baby. It was quite a busy street and it was absolutely not a safe place for a barefoot baby.

Scared and cold, the baby was crying and only felt comfort after Irena picked her up into her loving arms. She carried the baby all the way to her bus where a passenger gave up her coat to warm down the baby who was cold to the touch after being exposed to such a low temperature.

“Oh my God, I was so upset and I couldn’t believe that somebody can, left the child on the street,” Irena told WLS-TV. “Baby was so scared and cried, and she didn’t know what to do, where to go.”

Later on, they found out the baby girl who soon fell asleep in Irena’s warm arms, was less than a year old. The poor infant was left by her mother who was reportedly suffering from mental health issues.

Beyond thankful.

Pretty soon, firefighters, police officers, and transit security officers arrived at the scene. They said besides feeling cold and scared, the little baby was totally unharmed.

Authorities got in contact with the infant’s father and had them reunited.

The kindhearted MCTS driver said she was just grateful that she was able to help the baby from all sorts of danger. If it wasn’t because of her or if she arrived at the scene a little late, the ending of this story could’ve been different.

Irena was not the first and only MCTS bus driver to save a lost or missing child, in fact, that was the ninth rescue that they have made in recent years.

Kudos to these amazing drivers who would unhesitatingly save anyone in need without asking for any recognition in return.
