There’s a cafe in Aberdeen in Scotland that always writes the wittiest statements on their signboard.
Besides their menu and ambiance, they’ve become known for their signboards and people come to add their own witty puns.
But their most famous sign would probably be the riddle that stumped the world.
What has 5 letters. Sometimes 9 letters, but never has 5 letters.
Do you know the answer?
If you’ve read it several times and still don’t know the answer, you’re not alone.
A number of people couldn’t figure out the answer. And they just kept coming back to see if someone had figured it out and posted the answer.
The person who uploaded the sign to her social media account was amused at what was happening but decided to help out.
Lacey gave a subtle clue, careful not to give too much away. And it worked. Sort of. It took people some time to figure out the answer.
But, by george, they finally got it!

And it looks like Inversnecky Cafe doesn’t want to stump people too much again. They haven’t posted a riddle this clever and “unsolvable” since.

Like what Lacey said, read it like a statement, not a question. Whenever we see a statement that starts with what, we automatically assume it’s a question.
But in this case, it’s a statement.
The statement says that the word “what” has 4 letters, the word “sometimes” has 9 letters, and the word “never” has 5 letters.
