A wedding is one of life’s most important moments. But no wedding is complete without friends and family. We want the people that we love to be there for us on that day. But sometimes, that is impossible. Life’s circumstances can prevent us from attending weddings of our loved ones but it doesn’t always mean they have to miss the celebrations.
This young bride decided to pay a surprise visit to her 102-year-old grandmother, who was unable to fly to her wedding because of old age.
Tara’s grandma, Stasia, wanted to be a part of her granddaughter’s wedding, despite her heart condition and advanced age but because of her health and age Stasia could not attend the nuptials in person. Knowing this her granddaughter took matters into her own hands.
“I knew in my heart she was trying to hang on to get there somehow. I decided to fly to her with my wedding dress, it was unaltered and didn’t fit yet but none of that mattered. I may have lied to my entire family about where I was that weekend, and I didn’t tell my friends so I could surprise everyone with these photos.
The photos Tara shared on Facebook capture the tear-inducing moment the bride-to-be surprised her grandma who described it as one of the greatest days of her long life. Dressed in a beautiful white wedding dress, Tara shared the happiest moment of her life with Stasia.
It was at this special moment that the future bride felt she would never see her grandma again. Tara shared her heartbreaking story in a Facebook post that had gone viral on social media.
“When I said goodbye to her that night, I think we both knew it would be the last time we would see each other. She grabbed my cheeks with her hands, looked me straight in the eye and said ‘I love you very much’ and 27 days later she passed away. I am so blessed to have this be my last memory with her. She was beyond an amazing woman! I love you Nana, always and forever!”
Tara kept her trip a secret until the wedding day when she surprised her parents with the pictures of her and grandma taken by the photographer Misty McLendon. It was a heartwarming experience for the bride’s parents, brother, and sister in law.
“Tara kept the shoot a secret and surprised her mom, dad, brother and sister in law with the picture of them together on her wedding day,” said McLendon. McLendon then captured images of Tara’s family looking at the photos of their daughter and grandma with tears in their eyes.
It is always hard to lose our loved ones but they are never truly gone if we keep them in our memory. Tara has found a way to share her special moment with her grandma before she passed away.
The photos that Tara shared teach us that it’s never too late to do something special for our loved ones. Even the smallest gesture can make a difference. Don’t be afraid to share your happiest moments with those closest to you. Every act of kindness means a world to people who love us.
