Most brides look forward to their wedding day for many reasons. They get excited about the dress, the guests, the cake, and of course, spending the rest of their lives with their spouse. Thirty-year-old Lyndsey Henderson couldn’t wait to enjoy all those things.
She was also looking forward to dancing.
What was supposed to be the best day or her life turned into one of the most painful. Lyndsey ended up breaking both of her feet at her wedding. She didn’t even know what had happened until the next day.
She had worked really hard to learn the dance moves to one of her favorite songs, B*Witched’s ‘C’est la Vie. When the song finally played she was ecstatic.
Little did she know it would be her downfall.
She shared her story saying,
“I chose not to drink as I wanted to remember the night with all my loved ones. I just went absolutely crazy as it’s one of my favorite songs and was the first one I bought on cassette in 1998! It was around 11 pm and the DJ put the song on and I was doing my best Michael Flatley with all my bridesmaids. Then when I went a bit freestyle. I managed to jump up and land on the sides of my feet.”
She thought she was okay and went right back to dancing.
She had no idea that she had seriously injured herself. She continued,
“At first I didn’t realize what had happened. I noticed I landed funny but didn’t give it a second thought. I kept on dancing for another six songs and even had a dance with my dad to ‘Wonderful Tonight’ afterward. It wasn’t until the next day when I started walking a bit weird on my left foot that I thought something was up but I just thought it was a sprain. I spent the Sunday with Sean just watching movies and chilling out.”
She finally decided that something was wrong and called her doctor.
She added,
“The doctors said straight up I would not be able to fly so we dodged a bullet there! I still have a bit of the school summer holidays to rest up so I will be fit to go back to work. We spent two-and-a-half years planning it all, had the perfect wedding in Santorini and a great wedding reception, and this is how it ended up!”
Luckily, the couple’s honeymoon wasn’t until a few months later.
She had plenty of time to heal before they left for their adventure. She’s thankful things weren’t worse. She added,
“It could have been worse, and I find it quite funny.”
She also finds the humor in her vows. She said her husband was surprised to find that she was in two casts. She explained,
“Sean returned from his first day back at work to me with two casts on my legs. His reaction was complete shock. He’s been an absolute angel, and has been waiting on me hand and foot. After all, our vows did say ‘in sickness and in health’!”
She sure is testing her husband early on in the marriage.
He is clearly planning on sticking by her side, even if she is a little clumsy. The next time she plans a big event, she had better wear some ankle supports and be more careful.
She might think she is a good dancer, but it’s clear that she needs to work a little bit more on not falling. Those moves don’t look so good on the dance floor. While her wedding day may not have gone exactly how she expected, it’s definitely still memorable.
Every time she hears that song, she will remember the time she danced so hard at her wedding that she broke her feet. What a nice story to share with her grandkids someday. Hopefully, this couple has a long and happy marriage.
