Some people have amazing dance moves and some people can do great impressions. Brett Nichols can do both.

If you were looking from afar you would mistake him for the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson

Nichols has been impersonating Jackson for more than a decade and now does it professionally. He got his big break after doing a dance routine to Jackson’s Billie Jean during a talent show at Pitman High School in Turlock, California.

Not only was the performance a hit with his fellow classmates but it went over big on the internet and ended up going viral.

A video of that performance now has more than 1 million views on one YouTube channel alone.

“I guess people still miss him, it’s been five years (since his death),” Nichols told ABC 1o in 2014. “The younger generation appreciates the work, and not only does someone care, but someone cared to put in the time.”

Nichols perfectly executes Jackson’s every move to the crowd’s delight making them cheer wildly as he performs Jackson’s signature kicks and spins with passion and power.

The crowd pretty much lost it when he started to moonwalk across the gym floor.

After watching the viral video, it’s not hard to see why Nichols ended up winning first place in the talent show competition.

Nichols has long been a fan of Jackson’s music but says that it wasn’t until he saw Jackson’s music videos that it truly started to resonate with him.

That’s what inspired him to try and learn some of Jackson’s legendary dance routines.

“YouTube came around and you could find all the videos and songs I remembered hearing,” Nichols said. “Then it was possible to see the choreography, it inspired me. And then I thought, ‘why isn’t this something I can’t do.’ Then it was practice, practice, watch, learn and take notes.”

Since his talent show performance, Nichols has posted several videos of him covering Jackson’s different dance routines from Smooth Criminal to Black or White.

He’s also appeared on several TV shows on networks like NBC, CNN, and ABC and has publicly performed his learned routines. But it all started with that original performance at his high school talent show.

“Outstanding. Full marks for energy, rhythm, style, presentation, timing, and poise,” one YouTuber user said of that performance.

“MJ would have loved seeing this kid emulate him,” said another.
