A few months ago, Paul Wood, a man from Lodi, California, started having sudden problems with his health.
The community volunteer and father started suffering from excruciating headaches and feeling very unwell. He was losing his sense of balance and knew something was seriously wrong. In an interview with CBS Sacramento, he said:
“I had massive headaches, I couldn’t walk down the hallway without holding on to the walls.”
Sadly, the worst case scenario became a reality when Wood was referred to neurosurgeons who diagnosed him with a malignant brain tumor.
Malignant tumors are an aggressive tumor that quickly invades surrounding tissues. While they can affect people of any age, they’re more common amongst older adults. When a malignant brain tumor is detected, it needs to be treated immediately before it can spread and damage other parts of the brain and spinal cord. Although Wood had scheduled a surgery to have it removed, his main form of treatment was his faith.
When Wood was diagnosed with the malignant brain tumor, he turned to God to help get him through the hard times.
A friend later revealed:
“He just kept saying, ‘No matter what happens to me. I’m going to be okay. I trust God.’ So that was an inspiration for a lot of people around him.
Friends and family started praying for Wood and wishing him the best. “Facebook is prayer after prayer— all over California,” he told CBS Sacramento. And, in light of Wood’s recent good news, the prayers weren’t for naught.
When Wood arrived for a checkup the day before surgery, doctors were shocked to see his tumor had completely disappeared.
They have no way to explain the phenomenon— and Wood’s former symptoms attest to the fact that something was there. In an interview with CBS Sacramento, Dr. Richard Yee examines the brain scans in confusion.
“We do tests and we have medical technology and we try to come up with some conclusion,” he said.
“Sometimes things happen that we can’t explain.”
Nobody knows how or why Wood’s tumor disappeared— but people in his congregation believe it was the power of prayer.
While Wood is no doubt ecstatic about the news, he tries not to overthink it: “It’s a miracle,” he said.
“That’s the way God planned it, and that’s the way it went.”
Since the segment on CBS Sacramento, Wood’s story is going viral. It’s been featured by media outlets such as the UK Daily Mail, the Christian Broadcasting Network, and the UK Express. For many, the story is a refreshing reminder of the power of positive thinking, faith, and hope. Even in the most devastating of situations, a miracle can occur.
