Typically, one would think that a child looks up to an adult – and not the other way around. But that’s not always the case. Sometimes kids can be the ones to set a good example, just like the two children did in the story below.
The two boys were busy racing down the street near their homes in Indiana.
When they noticed a funeral procession, they immediately stopped what they were doing. They jumped off their bikes as soon as “Taps” started to play. With arms folded behind them, they stood in silence and paid respect.
The funeral was for a veteran named Charles Everette Yorn, a man they’d never met before.
The 89-year-old man used to serve in the US Army. After his service ended, he went to work for an American medical technology company. He worked there for 32 long years.
The boys’ actions didn’t go unnoticed.
Jacqi Hornbach was near the boys when it happened. She thought that it would be a nice thing to capture their good deed on camera.
She shared:
“To see these two young boys immediately stop and pay their respects to a passed serviceman, without any prompting or knowledge of anyone watching, was just so touching to see.”
However, she had initially debated on whether she should post the photos online. Fortunately, she decided that it would be good to share them.
With all the negative things happening these days, the world needs to see something good.
In her Facebook post, she said:
“I debated whether or not to post this, but with all the negative things going on, I thought this was needed. I was dog sitting for a friend last week and was enjoying the nice weather outside when a funeral procession came into the cemetery across the street. These two young men were riding their bikes and saw the flag of the deceased military man.”
She continued:
They immediately stopped riding, got off their bikes, and stood with respect as TAPS was being played. I had to snap a pic as I was so proud of these two young men. Their parents should be so proud, and im sure the serviceman was in heaven smiling down on them.“
The post went viral, and the kids’ actions that day touched hearts across the internet.
One YouTube user commented:
“Those young men were taught respect and understand the sacrifice that Veteran and all Veterans have made for our country this act is something we don’t see to often anymore their parents are raising amazing young men”
Another one said:
“There’s your hope and change right there. Good going young men…”
On Facebook, there was also this person who commented:
“Thank you for posting this. There are good children in the world. They outnumber the bad but it’s the bad that make the news. These young men were raised the right way. Kudos to the parents.”
The world needs more people like these two boys.
Kids can get a bad wrap sometimes. But if we take the time to look, even young children can do admirable things, just like these boys. Their parents really must be so proud!
