Kids usually don’t have a lot of money. Their wellbeing’s generally tied to their family’s wealth.

Even the highest allowance earners don’t make near as much as the average adult.

Well, meet Jake Boone. He may be young, but he’s beginning to think like an adult. He even claims to have a job.

“I drive my flatbed to work, with my cow trailer hooked to it.”

Wow, I didn’t realize he’s even old enough to drive!

He holds his fingers to his mouth, clearly scheming.

Jake’s adorable, further describing his current “job” to a companion across the table. By the sound of it, his work seems to require a healthy dose of manual labor.

Most work certainly ain’t easy for a child.

His counterpart at the table, presumably his mother or grandmother, decides to humor him,

“Where do you work?”

Jake’s glad she asked.

Young Jake responds,

“I work down at the cow place.”

Wow, the cow place. I wonder what goes on down there. Maybe a farm?

He then adds,

“Did you know they had straw down there?”

Interesting, I wonder if they have horses, too. His conversation partner’s warm and easy to talk to, continuing,

“I didn’t know they had straw down there. Do you have to load that?”

He admits that he does.

That’s a lot of responsibility for such a young guy!

The subject then turns to trucks. His adorable face lights up.

Jakes continues to describe his situation,

“And I got one flatbed.”

Again Jake, aren’t you a little young to be driving?

He turns to his right, pausing for a few moments…

He’s deep in thought, possibly imagining life with a truck.

Snapping out of his workingman persona, Jake lets out a sincere smile and drops a doozy in jest,

“I’m poor, ain’t I?”

Returning a hearty chuckle, his companion replies, “Yeah, you are.”

His smile is infectious.

Jake certainly knows better. He may be young, but he understands his circumstances.

Although he doesn’t technically own a lot of property or money, life’s not too shabby. He’s surrounded by people who love him.

As if remembering that he does not, in fact, have a job, Jake suddenly contradicts his prior claims,

“I ain’t poor.”

His companion agrees,

“Naw, you got it all Bubby.”

She’s right, ya know.

He wipes his nose and gathers his thoughts, contemplating life.

Jake knows he doesn’t have a job. He knows he has no money, personally. But he has a vivid imagination, and he’s learning about the world each and every day.

Maybe he was just projecting his own dreams and aspirations? Or maybe he’s reflecting on common occupations in his area?

He knows he doesn’t have a job. But he’s dreamt of it. He’s clearly drawn to flatbed trucks, speaking of them fondly throughout the course of the discussion. He already seems to be contemplating his future.

One day, he may very well own that flatbed truck.

Jake looks down, gathering his thoughts.

Jake seems to be dipping his toes into adult-oriented thinking. He’s beginning to organize his priorities and where he’s going in life.

Unlike the overwhelming majority of kids his age, he’s already aware of the concept of work and the importance of a stable income.

He’s already thinking about future finances. Next, he’ll be thinking about managing stock portfolios and 401k contributions.

The path to adulthood’s riddled with tons of life lessons, but he’s already off to a great start.

And just look at that face.

Dave Ramsey has a few invaluable ways to teach kids the value of money.

Given his current mindset, Jake may be well on his way to financial freedom. He just needs to actually start making money first…

Soon enough, he’ll be ready.

I mean he’s already imagined himself doing intense jobs and owning flatbed trucks.

Although his story was all a clever ruse from a clever child, it does highlight the importance of financial planning and a steady income towards achieving certain goals. He sounds like he wants some trucks.

Jake may be young, and he may not currently have a job, but he will one day. He’s foreseen it.

Eventually, he’ll have one or maybe even two flatbed trucks and some extra cash to throw around. But more importantly, he’ll be surrounded by people that love him.

And he’s already off to a tremendous headstart in life even thinking about these concepts. I remember barely considering my future even in high school.

Jake certainly has a bright future ahead.

Although you don’t technically have any money, you’re certainly not poor. On the contrary, Jake – you’re surrounded by love.
