Christmas is seen as the most wonderful time of the year. Families all gather around at home or maybe go on vacation, spend time with each other, and of course, open gifts.
And while most people around the country ask for clothing, jewelry, and other material things for Christmas, some families like to take the more sentimental route.
Sometimes one is presented with an opportunity, a puppy, or in this little boy’s case, a new sibling!
We’re all familiar with the common sibling rivalry that takes place among children growing up. When a new child enters the family, the older one gets jealous. Not in this case, though.
10-year-old boy Owynn was gifted with the most wonderful present of all – a baby sister! And he was actually asking for it, even adding it on his Christmas list for Santa. Now he finally got his wish.
Owynn’s parents Stacey and Adam Lindsay have always wanted at least two children. Stacey grew up in a huge family too, with 14 siblings!
She wanted Owynn to have a similar experience, but in her Love What Matters story, she explained that she had been trying to have another child for seven long years and unfortunately did not succeed.
After five heart-wrenching miscarriages plus a failed in-vitro, they considered becoming foster parents. However, they decided against it eventually, which saddened Owynn who was eager for another sibling in the home.
In June by the grace of God we were introduced to an amazing young woman, Kendra, who wanted to place her baby for adoption. We knew it was a one in a million chance she would pick us, but our prayers were answered. We kept the whole situation from our 10-year-old son knowing that the chances were high the birth mom may change her mind. We already knew his feelings on becoming a sibling, and we knew we couldn’t get his hopes up again just to crush his heart.
So, while the situation with Kendra was promising, they decided to not tell Owynn.
When they finally did get their new baby girl, they decided to surprise Owynn. They wrapped her up in warm, cozy blankets and carefully placed her under the Christmas tree (because she is a present after all!) and surprised him one day when he was coming home.
Owynn walked over to the tree and saw his “gift,” and his reaction after that was absolutely priceless.
He read her shirt that said “little sister.”
He sat in silence for a moment, completely overwhelmed until his mother asked if he wanted to hold her. Of course, he answered with a yes.
Stacey went on to explain the situation to her son with care and patience. She explained that she was born just two days ago and that instead of foster care, they opted to adopt. She also explained to him that this had been going on for quite some time.
Kendra was also there and Stacey introduced the two. Owynn even hugs Kendra to say thank you for making him a big brother.
