Everyone and their mother loves the song “Sound of Silence.” Most people grew attached to the original Simon & Garfunkel version. But since the song has been redone many times. The rock band Disturbed re-popularized the song with their eerie ballad. Since then, YouTubers aplenty have done amazing covers of the song.
He started with a nervous deep breath.
While many have done the song justice, one of the most impressive versions comes from one young boy who auditioned for The Voice Germany. The kid’s name is Iggi Kelly and can this boy sing. With a voice like butter and a calming presence, Iggy Kelly takes the stage.
His Mom was also clearly nervous watching from backstage.
Iggi Kelly (born Iggi Sawinkin) is in part, a member of The Kelly Family, an American-European family band dating back to the 70s. His mother was part of the band in the 70s and Iggi himself was featured on the band’s CDs a few times in the past when he was very young. On The Voice, he even performed one of his aunt Maite Kelly’s songs from 1996. The band is pretty big across Europe.
Chairs quickly turned.
But, back to that audition. It all started with Simon & Garfunkel’s song. The first one impressed was Nena. Non-Germans may know Nena as the performer of the hit song “99 Luftballons” from 1883. Well, Nena immediately turned her chair around!

You’ll notice attached to her is her daughter, who performs with her often, Larissa. The two were ecstatic to hear the young boy killing “Sound of Silence.” His voice was raspy and his tone gave them chills! Iggi’s mother, Patricia, waited on the sidelines, out of her mind with excitement. She prayed that he would do well and make it through.
But she needn’t worry about that. Soon enough, Mark Forster turned his chair. That gave Iggi two options to choose from as far as coaches go. Now he not only had a chance, but he also had a choice. You know that both these coaches wanted to see where they could take him.
While Sasha was still not convinced, it didn’t matter. Iggi has already been assured a spot in the next round. So it looks like you snooze, you lose Sasha. Do you know who has never had a winner on the voice? Sasha. Maybe he should take on more prodigies like Iggi here!
His audition has earned over 7 million views on YouTube.
Iggi Kelly ended up making it quite a way before he eventually lost to The Voice Kids Germany Season 5 winner Sofie Thomas. Like him, Sofie was very talented and deserved the win just as much as he did. These kids are all deserving of the win, but not many of them have auditions quite as memorable as Iggi’s.
A commenter on YouTube praises him saying,
His voice is just unreal, with his tone and all the cracks when he sings!! And to add more, his interpretations felt really mature for a kid this age.
Though he didn’t win The Voice, that wasn’t the end to Iggi’s success. These days, Iggi is setting up tours in cities like London, Berlin, and Paris!
