Childhood is filled with a sense of wonder and imagination. Literally the entire world is unexplored, newfound territory to a toddler.

Baby Arthur is no exception. The world is truly his oyster, finding fascination in the little things. Even a routine dog walk provides small, attention-grabbing perks. Arthurโ€™s no match for what an adult might deem mundane.

One fine day, Arthur and his familyโ€™s Shar-Pei dog, Watson, take to the road for a nice little walk. The lack of tree leaves and Arthurโ€™s jacket hint at fall or winter conditions. There doesnโ€™t appear to be anything special on the trailโ€ฆ but Arthur thinks otherwise.

โ€œYouโ€™re My Best Friendโ€ by Queen enters the airwaves atop footage of the tandem walking โ€“ a perfect choice for our two protagonists. Freddie Mercuryโ€™s powerful vocal timbre adds an endearing element to the walk.

Two peas in a pod.

From the very start, Arthurโ€™s particularly interested in a shining puddle, going out of his way (and dragging Watson along) to plant both of his feet firmly in the water without breaking stride. Splish splash.

The walk continues โ€“ for a moment. The two appear to be on their very way before Arthur comes to a halt and turns to Watson.

In perhaps the videoโ€™s cutest moment, Arthur walks over to Watson, proceeding to gently lay his dog leash on the ground, imploring Watson to stay put. Arthur has some important matters to tend to.

Watsonโ€™s larger and significantly older than Arthur, adding to the ridiculousness (and cuteness) of the situation.

Arthur turns around, heading back to that same pristine play puddle without as much as a second thought. His heartโ€™s set. Fortunately, Watson doesnโ€™t seem to mind.

The puddleโ€™s probably a few inches deep at max. Either way, Arthurโ€™s captivated.

Watsonโ€™s a great dog, standing in place while Arthur proceeds to play in the puddle. He looks somewhat puzzled, but his patience is immaculate. Watson might be dog of the year, acting as a de facto older brother or godfather.

In fact, Shar-Peis are known for their intelligence, loyalty, and calm disposition. Waiting a few moments doesnโ€™t bother Watson at all. Other dogs would either join in on the fun or run wild. Watson knows better.

Like a good guardian, Watson looks back for a few moments to make sure Arthurโ€™s safe and sound. The child continues to splash joyously in the shallow puddle. I hope his shoes are waterproof.

Within a few moments, Arthur seems to lose interest. The shiny new puddle play date comes to a quick conclusion. A shallow puddle can only hold someoneโ€™s attention for so long, apparently.

Play timeโ€™s over. Arthur walks back to his trusty companion, picking up the leash exactly where he left it. Watsonโ€™s ready to go โ€“ his patience pays off.

The two continue on their merry way without hesitation.

Arthur and Watson are the perfect duo. Arthur learns real responsibility by walking Watson, while Watsonโ€™s wisdom and patience are perfect for Arthurโ€™s childlike sense of wonder. Watson can watch intently as Arthur innocently interacts with the surrounding world.

Everythingโ€™s still new to little Arthur. Fortunately, heโ€™s got a trusty companion in Watson โ€“ someone whoโ€™s undoubtedly going to play a large role in Arthurโ€™s life as he grows.

Watson plays the perfect watchdog.
