Can you imagine finding a box that says “open ASAP”? You’d probably freak out if it were outside of your house! I know I sure would get a little scared.
In this day an age, a package showing up with our name on it from an unknown sender would be a bit weird. But a box with no names on it whatsoever is just downright frightening.
When a package showed up on their driveway on Halloween, one family feared the worst of what it could mean.
The 36-inch cardboard box was wrapped in Christmas wrapper paper and had a note “OPEN ASAP” on yellow paper on top of the box.
The family called 911, who then had the bomb squad called in when the box turned up at the home of a Cross Plains resident in rural Tennessee.
It looked like it was a Christmas present, based on the wrapping. But due to the size of the box and the fact it arrived nearly a full two months early, the family was frightened by the box and what it might imply.
“The flap wasn’t even secured down,” Robertson County’s EMA Director R.L. Douglas told InsideEdition.com.
When police inspected the box, they found out that it wasn’t a bomb.
After scoping for bomb powder residue, they found the box contained love letters and a teddy bear. It was an attempt by a woman to get in contact with a young man she met on an online dating app.
“There were love letters, two love letters, a photograph of a female lying in the river, clothed, and it was an attempt to contact a man she met on Tinder,” said Officer Logan Abernathy in an interview with WTVF.
“I thought it was somebody just horsing around, and basically, that’s what it was,” Douglas said.
When the woman had tried contacting the man and gotten no response, she took the next step and left him this gift. While she might not have meant to be scary or joking around, when you leave a box that big on someone’s driveway, people are going to take notice.
The police tracked her down but aren’t charging her for leaving the box. Maybe it won over the man’s heart? Either way, you can’t really blame the family for being nervous.
