How do you style and wear your boots with jeans?
Do you tuck your jeans into your boots or roll them up? Socks or no socks? What is the right way?
Skinny jeans and ankle boots
The best way to style skinny jeans with ankle boots is to keep them long and end just above the top of the boots. If the jeans are too long, you can have a tailor alter them to the length you need or just roll them up so only a sliver of your ankle shows.

DON’T: Tuck skinny jeans into boots
This is a major DON’T, especially if you are wearing different colors for boots and jeans. It cuts off your legs and it just doesn’t look good.
The only exception to tucking your skinny jeans into boots is if you are wearing the same exact color, especially if it’s black. It will elongate your legs and make you look taller.
DO: Add a small roll
What works with different colored boots and jeans is a little exposed skin between the end of the pants and the top of the boots.
To make it look even better, cuff the end of the jeans with two small rolls. It’ll look much cleaner.
DON’T: Let straight leg hang at boot
What do you do with straight-leg jeans that hang above your boots? Do you tuck them in or let them be? Neither.
Tucking them into your boots will make your look very clunky. Letting them hang on top of your boots looks awkward though. So what do you do?
DO: Cuff a straight leg jeans
It’s always best to cuff straight-leg jeans with ankle boots. Unlike with skinny jeans, it’s okay to fold a thicker cuff to show off skin and the top of your boots.
Cuffing will also keep the jeans in place and won’t look disheveled after a few hours.
DON’T: Tuck fray leg jeans
Don’t tuck them in for the same reason you don’t tuck in straight-leg jeans with ankle boots. With fray-leg jeans, it’s best to let them hang over your boots.
Do pick out boots that will go up the jeans. That exposed skin look does not look well for fray-leg jeans and ankle boots.
DON’T: Let jeans hang with a wider ankle boot
Wider ankle boots and jeans are a little harder to pair. One thing to remember is never to let your jeans hang over wide-ankle boots. It looks unkempt. And it will ruin your entire look.
DO: Wear a tighter ankle boot
If you want to let your jeans hang over your boots, you need to find narrow-ankle boots to have that perfect boot-jean balance.
It can be tedious to look for the right pair of boots but if you want to look good, you need to find the ONE.
DON’T: Have too big of an ankle gap
Exposing your ankle between the jeans and the boots can look good. Remember, just a little goes a long way. When the ankle gap is too big, it just emphasizes how short your jeans are and will ruin the entire outfit.
It’s a shame to look for the right outfit and have it ruined by the wrong shoes.
DO: Wear a taller boot
All is not too late though. You just need to wear taller boots and close that ankle gap. No one will notice that your jeans are shorter than they really are.
DO: Tuck skinny jeans with same color jeans
We mentioned earlier that the only time you’ll tuck in skinny jeans into your boots is when they’re the same color. Tuck in your black skinny jeans with black boots or your white jeans with boots.
It makes your boots look like it’s part of your jeans and makes your legs look longer than they actually are.
If you’re a petite woman, this look will make you look taller!
