If God were to sing, it would be Andrea Bocelli’s voice we would here. The man is well known in perhaps every corner of the world and his tenor style reverberates across continents, regardless of race and language, uniting people through his music. Now he has many hits, many unbelievable renditions of classics, but the man’s talent doesn’t stop there.
How about an Andrew Lloyd Webber hit?
It was back in 1992 when a much younger Bocelli was discovered by another very famous tenor by the name of Luciano Pavarotti. After a discussion of which a compromise was reached, Andrea and Luciano ended up recording the song “Miserere” together.
From then on, Bocelli’s carrer took off.
Prince Harry and William arranged a benefit concert for their mom, Princess Diana, the beloved royal who would have celebrated her 46th birthday ten years from her passing. Princess Diana loved the theater. It was only fitting that songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber were to be sung.
Andrea Bocelli’s rendition of “Music of the Night” from The Phantom of the Opera is enchanting.
Who doesn’t love The Phantom of the Opera? Even non-fans of theater appreciate this production. The songs, of course, were written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and is sung by the Phantom as he tries to seduce Christine Daae. It’s the stuff of fantasy and romance.
The Phantom has two loves. Music and Christine Daae. “Music of the Night’ is written for both of his loves. Good music, really good music, should always elicit an emotional response. And that’s exactly what this song does. Music and love cannot be touched or “seen” but it always hits deep.
You know how Bocelli likes to sing motionless, with his eyes closed? It’s his voice that does the magic. Either people stare mesmerized, or are moved to tears as the artist touches their soul with his work. It’s not unknown for people to cry when he sings.
So if you have a tendency to let the tears flow, grab some tissue.
Andrea has a way of making a song his won without much effort. Sure, it may be just a rendition but more often than not, his version stands out and becomes timeless, getting better with age.
The thing with Andrea Bocelli is he does the exact opposite of what other musicians do.
Now it’s pretty normal for the audience to be loud and boisterous before the show, but once the artist comes out to perform, they usually get louder. Not with Andrea. The moment he starts singing, the crowd goes silent. An eerie silence mixed with wonder allowing his voice to carry out across the open area.
Such an amazing voice! And it only becomes better when accompanied by an orchestra. Lady Diana must have been smiling that beautiful smile of hers during this unbelievable show by Bocelli.
7.5 million views and counting don’t lie either.
Andrea’s many performances have viewers going back to watch the same videos over and over again.
It’s not an easy song to sing either. It’s slow but requires crazy amounts of control and range. But then again, this is Andrea Bocelli. His classic demeanor on stage is almost Phantom-like, except cooler.
The people in that crowd were very lucky to be there. This was an unforgettable moment.
