Thereโs a major problem going on in Navi Mumbai, India thatโs extremely disturbing. The water in the local river is shockingly polluted โ so polluted, in fact, that it is literally turning the townโs dogs blue.
Seemingly out of nowhere โ the townโs residents started noticing that the dogs wandering the streets were all dyed blue.
At first, many people hypothesized that someone was deliberately going around and dying the dogsโ coats. Sadly โ that was not the case. The problem was much bigger and much more devastating than that.
Several years ago, the Kasadi River was deemed as undrinkable because of a dangerous amount of industrial chemical waste. However, the problem has gotten much worse since then.
Animal rights activists caught wind of the story and are begging the authorities to do something about the pollution.
โIt was shocking to see how the dogโs white fur had turned completely blue,โ Mumbaian animal rights activist Arati Chauhan said in an interview. โWe have spotted almost five such dogs here and have asked the pollution control board to act against such industries.โ
A local newspaper says that the riverโs pollution levels have multiplied by around 13 times since it was first deemed as undrinkable. The local dogs bathe and drink the water, and itโs literally dying their coats.
Apparently, local fishermen have been complaining for years, but nothing has been done about it. The fish have been dying, and itโs creating a horrible stench. Not to mention, creating serious health concerns about what they are ingesting when they eat food from the river.
Locals are gravely concerned about the health repercussions that could come from having such a horribly polluted river nearby.
Supposedly, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board are trying to figure out what exactly is causing the dogsโ fur to turn such a color.
โAllowing the discharge of dye into any water body is illegal. We will take action against the polluters as they are destroying the environment. We have directed our sub-regional officer to investigate,โ a spokesman from the organization said.
They believe they have found the culprit of the issue โ Ducol Organics Pvt. Ltd. and they have promised to fix the issue. A gate has also been erected to keep the dogs out of the water.
