Emmit Walker was minding his own business while waiting to travel from Washington, D.C., to the Dominican Republic when he faced a situation that proved that racism is still a problem.

Walker was going to celebrate his birthday in the Dominican Republic and was waiting in the line for priority boarding, where he belonged. Walker, who is a music executive, had the appropriate ticket to be in priority boarding.

The woman behind Walker in line decided to interrupt his peaceful wait by asking him if he was in the right line.

Walker felt incredibly frustrated with the entire exchange and decided to share what happened on his Facebook page, complete with a picture of him with the woman behind him.

Walker captioned the photo with a description of the conversation the two had.

It began when the woman said, “Excuse me,” and told Walker that she thought he was in the wrong line, explaining that it was for priority boarding. At that point, Walker confirmed that priority boarding was first class, without showing a hint of confusion.

The mystery woman took this as a sign that she was right and told Walker that they would call his boarding group after priority boards. Walker responded by showing her his priority boarding pass and repeating that he was in the right spot. He went on to tell the woman that since he lined up before her, she would get to board after him.

Even with the boarding pass as evidence, this woman couldn’t seem to believe that Walker had paid for a first-class plane ticket.

Walker indicated in his Facebook post that the woman wasn’t able to let the issue go. She then muttered that he must be in the military or have another reason for his priority pass. Essentially, she simply could not wrap her head around the fact that Walker had paid for his ticket just like she paid for hers.

The woman made it even worse by indicating that those in the military shouldn’t get to board before paying customers.

Walker didn’t let her misunderstanding continue, telling her that he’s “too big” to be in the military.

He said that he’s just a black guy with money.

According to Walker, everyone in the line actually started to clap once he finally put the woman in her place.

By the time Walker landed at his destination, his Facebook post had already begun its viral movement.

Walker actually felt bad about the way that his post went viral and the way in which the woman behind him was portrayed. In fact, he posted a video apologizing to the woman a day later.

This apology was done via an Instagram video, but it appears that Walker has taken down his Instagram account since the incident. Luckily, since Walker’s story went viral almost instantly, the post remains on other avenues.

In addition to the video apology to the woman, Walker also wrote out a caption expressing his regret.

In the caption, Walker let people know that he did not expect his original Facebook post to go viral. At the time, he had just thought it would be funny. While Walker acknowledged that the racism the woman displayed is certainly a problem, he said his post was not the best solution.

Walker said waking up in “paradise” on his birthday wasn’t as happy as it should have been since knew that he had likely caused the woman in question a negative experience. He expressed regret for how he handled the situation and indicated that he wished he hadn’t done so in a public manner.

Walker concluded by letting everyone know that he prides himself on not harming others and always putting himself in other people’s shoes, which he failed to do in this case.

What started as a sad but somewhat funny experience for Walker ended in proof to the entire internet that he has his morals in the right place.

He was the victim in the situation, yet he still apologized.
