Choosing a wedding dress can be intimidating. There are so many different styles and materials to consider. Some brides have had a specific vision in their head of what they want since they were little girls, while others feel overwhelmed at the prospect of making a choice. And that’s not even factoring in the cost, with many brides paying thousands of dollars for their wedding dress.
With the cost of some designer dresses, it’s no wonder that many brides are turning to other places to find their perfect gown. Some go rummaging in thrift stores, others rework their grandmother or mother’s dress, and some even rent a gown for the day. The simple fact is, there are dozens of ways to end up with a beautiful dress for your wedding day without forking over a lot of money.
Some brides love a classic, traditional look, while others enjoy pushing the bar and finding modern styles, patterns, and colors. And then there are the brides who make such bizarre choices, they wind up going viral on the internet — some even decades after their wedding took place.
We won’t judge if you got your wedding dress in a thrift shop. But these bizarre dresses are another story.
1. There’s nothing like wearing a wedding dress that resembles a tampon.
Everything about this is horrible, from the bows to the frills to the bizarre shape with the bride’s face peeking out. Was anyone at the wedding able to keep a straight face?
I have a lot of questions about this one. For one, where are her arms? What’s up with that shape? I guess at the end of the day, the two of them look happy, and that’s the most important thing.
Presumably, this means that she couldn’t move all day until the guests ate down to her legs. It also seems sticky and kind of unsanitary but to each their own, I guess.
Everything about this bridal outfit is taken to the next level. Anywhere there can be a frill, there’s a frill, from the headpiece to the sleeves to the embellished skirt. Let’s hope, for the poor bride’s sake, that the wedding was during the winter.
Okay, we’ll admit that this is some impressive balloon work, but it’s definitely an odd choice for a wedding dress. But my biggest question is about that balloon bouquet that doesn’t exactly resemble flowers.
6. Why have a wedding dress when you can have wedding bloomers?
If you want to get married while also looking like you’re wearing old-timey pantaloons, we have the perfect outfit for you. Just add some whimsical feathers and way too many roses and we’ll call it perfect.
7. When you’re getting married at 5 and robbing a bank at 6
There’s quite literally no part of this ensemble that doesn’t prompt questions. The skirt appears to be made from paper Mache, there’s a lace crop top, and that head gear…there are no words.
This comes across as a bizarre way to hide the fact that it’s a shotgun wedding. Why else would the bride dress as a ball of ruffles on her special day? We’re sure quite what was going though the designers mind when they made it.
This bizarre wedding dress looks like a tuxedo on the top and pineapple on the bottom. It’s perfect for the wedding of a pineapple farmer who still wants to be classy. That’s probably who it’s for, right?
While some brides go for ultra-slinky dresses, this one went in an entirely different direction. She appears to be channeling her inner shepherdess, with an impressive headpiece and truly unfortunate bloomers. The poof is absolutely out of this world.
This bride tried to think out of the box and go for a unique peacock theme, but unfortunately, it doesn’t look so good in practice. Instead, it looks like she’s wearing a normal wedding dress with a bunch of flowers and feathers glued haphazardly on the front.
Have you ever wondered what the bride of the future might look like? Apparently, she’ll have almost no hair and a veil that looks like a pair of futuristic goggles. And no smiling allowed at weddings in the future, apparently.
13. This bride let her love of K-cups go a little too far.
I’m honestly not sure what this designer was going for. Are those supposed to be bells? Roses? Whatever they are, they’re more distracting than anything else and there are way too many of them.
We get it. Wedding dresses are expensive. But it seems like there are a few other steps you could take — borrowing one, shopping at a thrift store, renting one — before resorting to making one out of toilet paper.
Non-white wedding dresses are coming back in style and we’re all for it! The pink color alone is not the problem here. But the pink combined with the hat, bows, lace, and ruffles? It’s all a little much.
Who knew you could find not one, but two wedding dresses made out of toilet paper? This bride left all the rolls attached to her dress, causing a catastrophe everywhere she goes.
We’re all for upcycling, but it’s possible to take it just a little bit too far. When you’re making your own wedding dress using a pile of trash, you might be trying too hard. At this point, you look less like a bride and more like a landfill.
Newsflash to all lovers of experiments: just because it’s white doesn’t mean it’s a wedding dress. Case in point – this diaper dress. Aside from being a massive waste, why on earth would anyone think this is a good idea?
19. There’s such a thing as too revealing and she mastered it.
Finding the right wedding dress when you’re expecting a baby can be difficult. This bride decided to go for the most in-your-face version, which includes a belly window. It must have been really awkward hugging guests that day.
The newest and worst trend in wedding dresses is body paint, which is exactly what it sounds like. Those spiffy wedding duds are…just paint on their bare skin. But since they’re wearing underwear and some embellishments, they’re not technically naked.
We’ve had balloon gowns and diaper gowns – now get ready for a cream puff gown that’s just as awkward as it sounds. This seems kind of unsanitary and definitely sticky — and she clearly can’t sit down.
This couple had a very specific vision in mind when it came to their wedding. It involved long black robes and, well — this. But at the very least, they look very happy, even if their outfit choices are a bit bizarre.
This bride decided to go for a Guinness world record for the longest wedding dress ever recorded. Unfortunately, she was beat in 2017 by a bride from France whose wedding train was long enough to cover Mount Everest.
We’d bet a lot of money that the guests at this wedding were intensely uncomfortable. Imagine trying to give the bridal couple a hug and not staring at her see-through dress and white bikini.
If there’s anything odder than a themed wedding, it might be one with a sheep theme.. Not only is the bride wearing a dress made out of wool, but she’s also leading a woolly friend on a leash. Which is great. Apparently, she really likes sheep.
This dress is a statement all on its own, but it’s really set off by the devil horns. There’s nothing like making a statement on your wedding day…even if it’s not completely clear what the statement is.
This bride clearly had a vision when it came to her wedding dress. She’s not interested in the classic white lace or chiffon. Instead, she’s all about the sparkles, ruffles, and pink hearts. At least she owns it.
This lady looks like she may have wandered into a flock of chickens by mistake. But as strange as her dress is, there’s no denying the look of pure joy on her face. And even if she has a unique look, that’s what’s most important.
This bride isn’t exactly being subtle about her allegiances. She’s from a hunting family and she owns it. And apparently, it’s a big enough part of her life to play a role in her wedding.
This bride also had a vision for her unique wedding look. It appears she’s making a statement about the love she has for her new husband but it could also be a statement about her love for her motorcycle.
They say that when you plan a party, you should stick to one theme. This couple wasn’t interested in that. They combined so many different ideas that you’re not even sure where to look first.
32. If you want to stand out, a red feather boa is the way to do it.
This bride decided to go all out on the red and white feathers, even topping it all off with a red feather umbrella. The black fingerless gloves are an interesting touch, giving the whole outfit a knockoff Eliza Doolittle vibe.
Do you know what the best thing is about this picture, beyond the voluminous dress, the over-the-top crown, and the fairy wand? The fact that her new husband is almost being smothered by her dress and he doesn’t look too thrilled about it.
Say what you want about dresses made out of feathers or diapers, but at least they’re soft and comfortable. On the other hand, this bizarre red solo cup “dress” seems like it would be extremely unpleasant to wear. It sends quite an interesting message.
35. Well, I guess if you like it, you should own it.
Well, we’ll say one thing for this unusual couple: they look really, really happy. Sure, they’re dressed as ogres who are also cartoon characters. But they’re clearly having a blast on their wedding day.
The look for this wedding was casual, sort of. Well, the bride is in a full gown and veil, but everyone else is in street clothes. And there is the matter of the word “wifey” spray-painted across her butt.
We get it, you want to spend the rest of your lives together. We all hope to do that with our someone special but the coffin and face makeup may have taken it just a tad bit too far.
The dress itself is actually lovely and tasteful. It’s the accessories that are odd. Specifically, those 50 glasses of champagne she’s wearing. I guess that’s one way to make sure all the guests congratulate the bride.
40. When you put too much soap in the washing machine
The expression on this bride’s face is almost as hilarious as the amount of poof in her dress. She looks a wee bit overwhelmed and there’s no blaming her. Who knows how long it took her to get into the car?
