Imagine if the second richest person in the world was your Secret Santa?! It would probably be pretty sweet and a very merry Christmas. That’s what happened to Megan Cummins who loves to participate in redditGifts, Reddit’s online annual Secret Santa exchange.
She was shocked to find out that her 2017 Secret Santa was none other than Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
Gates has been participating in the exchange for the last five years, but Megan never thought that she would ever match up with him for Secret Santa.
“I’ve done the Reddit gift exchange for years now. I love all the silly little gifts. I always check out the Bill Gates post and laugh at how crazy it must have been for that person, never for a second even considering it a possibility for me,” Megan wrote on Reddit.
The box that she received was massive and the size of a refrigerator.
“I could fit about 5 of me in the box I got. I did, in fact, stare awkwardly at the FedEx guy – I was so far beyond confused,” she explains. “Then I saw my Reddit username and apparently said ‘wwhaaatttt’ in such a weird way, the delivery guy started laughing. I tried to pull it inside and I guess looked ridiculous, so the guy ran back up to help me lol.”
Being a cat lover, she assumed that it was a cat tower… a very large cat tower. But it was so much more.
The first thing she pulled out was a stuffed 30-lb Pusheen the Cat doll.
“I instantaneously recognized the big grey blob shape and 2 tail stripes and, I kid you not, screamed like a little girl,” Megan says. “I was over the moon, and immediately loved my mystery Santa for all of eternity, forever and ever. They CLEARLY knew my soul.”
She then pulled out a photo of Gates with the giant Pusheen as wells $750 in donations to three of her favorite cat shelters, another stuffed Pusheen character, a Pusheen ornament, a book on cat shelters with a sweet note, a business book, some Dr. Who memorabilia, a $150 gift card, a needlepoint of he and Megan and Megan’s four cats, and lots more goodies.
“The best part? Well, second to the donations and gigantic Pusheen, Knowing that at some point during my workweek, I was drinking coffee, writing a boring email, and Bill Gates was somewhere having a professional photo taken with a jumbo Pusheen and writing me notes about cats,” Megan writes.
