When your best friend chooses you to be the Best Man at his wedding, what do you think should be done? Sure you could write a speech, prepare a few jokes, and show off how much your pal means to you. You could also be like this Best Man and leave the crowd in stitches with an incredibly silly video.
Just give me a few
The video starts off with the set up. It’s Mr. Milligan’s wedding day and his chosen best man is missing his speech. You might guess that the video is going to show him stumbling for his words or awkwardly pausing as he considers what to say. But you would be wrong.
Soon after the video begins, the best man asks the crowd to give him ten minutes and promises that he’ll be right back. He then leaves his place at the table and runs right out the door. You can hear someone shouting:
“He’s gone? What’s he doing?”
What is he doing?
The invited guests look confused until a video screen turns on showing them what the best man is up to. The laughs begin as they realize that his exit is part of a gag that he’s been planning for some time.
The camera cuts to the best man leaving the venue and running to his car. He drives a short distance before leaving the car and attempting to leap over a bush only to stumble and pratfall. 80s movie style rock plays as background music while all this is going on.
We don’t know what the best man is going to see on his trip, but you can bet that it’s going to be a lot of laughs.
Just an ordinary day
“Eye of the Tiger” plays early in the video getting you in the mood for the silly that you’re about to see. But the video dies down when our hero stops at a cross walk and sticks sticks a thumb out looking for a ride.
A car pulls up and the driver asks “Do you need a ride?” The best man explains that he just needs to go a few miles down the road to pick up something important. The driver says that he has room for one more. As if on cue, a man in the backseat with a bag over his head and his wrists tied by string pops up. He warns the best man that the driver is a maniac.
The camera cuts and the best man runs away figuring he should take his chances on the road.
Five miles later
Our hero eventually pulls a muscle. He’s hurt and pauses at an aid station for a nice stretch. After limbering up he’s back on the road for more.
After spending some time running through the neighborhood with passerby watching and animals fleeing, our hero reaches a motorboat. When you hear the James Bond theme play, you know what’s coming up.
With a rev of the engine, he’s sailing and living the action movie dreams of the best 80s action flicks.
A pint, a pump, and roller skates
Running all that way has to be thirsty work. So the best man races into a pub and slams down a bill asking for a tall class of his favorite drink. A text box says he’s had a few pints which then cuts to a shot of him staggering his way out the door.
He then races into a home and spends a moment relaxing with a joke that you have to see to believe. He then grabs a sports jersey and shoves it into a back pocket and puts on a pair of roller skates before he’s back on the road.
Finally, after stumbling over his skates he makes it back home and picks up a copy of his speech from a nearby table. He then orders a ride to take him back to the reception hall as a familiar movie tune plays.
And the crowd goes wild
Just imagine being in the reception while watching this video. It’s so absurd that it just makes everyone laugh. Even the man of the hour is out of his seat laughing and watching the fun.
But as “Going the Distance” plays, the video shows the Best Man, now rocking a sports jersey, racing back to the reception hall. He then runs down the hall and bursts into the reception to a standing ovation.
He offers a humble little smile then approaches the newly wedded couple for a hug. The video comes to a close with a simple warm message.
Do you think this video was a great best man speech? How would you feel if this happened at your wedding?
