There’s always a good best man’s speech to look forward to when you’re attending a wedding. But, usually, that speech is being made by, well, someone a bit older. It’s not every day that you see a young boy giving a speech in front of a hundred wedding guests.
However, this was the case for the 11-year-old boy named RJ. Back in October 2016, he gave a best man’s speech at his uncle Bill’s wedding and although you’d never expect it — and you might even be a little nervous going into it — it turned out to be pretty incredible.
The speech starts out with RJ introducing himself. At this point, people are already laughing because RJ presents himself with such confidence.
“I would like to thank you all for coming to this wedding,” he says. “I would also like to thank Bill and Mary for hosting this wedding.” At this point, the guests and the happy couple can’t stop laughing.
“Me and Bill, we go back a long time,” RJ continues, which results in a lot of laughter. “Eleven years. Pretty much my whole life. You know, we used to live in Iowa and every year he would come around to visit with a new girlfriend. Sometimes two!”
Wedding guests start whipping out their phones to record the speech because it’s priceless. RJ’s jokes are hilarious and he speaks with so much confidence, he really sounds beyond his years!
“He would ask me for advice and usually I’d say, ‘Kick ’em to the curb!’ But you know, when Mary came, she was different. She seemed normal! So I said, ‘Go for it!'”
Then the camera cuts to the happy bride and groom and they are also beside themselves, along with their guests. Both Mary and Bill have such big smiles on their faces as they laugh, even if RJ happens to be poking a little bit of fun at them.
“I’m happy you listened to my advice,” the little boy adds.
Everyone encourages RJ and claps along to every joke. It’s great that Mary and Bill have a sense of humor too and seem to be eating the whole speech up!
“I will leave you with this one final thought,” RJ says. “Stop asking me for advice. I’m 11-years-old. Congratulations.”
It’s not often that you see best man speeches get standing ovations but this one actually did. After RJ concluded his final thoughts, all of the guests began to stand up and cheer him on as if they were at a concert. That’s a pretty impressive reaction for such a young kid — and for any kind of best man’s speech!
RJ clearly has so much self-awareness, it really showed! He played up his age in a perfect way that made it extra funny. He had a couple of jokes but he also managed to keep it short and sweet.
Long story short, we definitely approve of this hilarious wedding speech. Bill and Mary are one lucky couple!
