There’s some really good advice in this world, and sometimes, we need to stop and just listen to it.

Mark Twain was a writer, lecturer, and entrepreneur – famous for his books, humor, and words of wisdom. During his lifetime, Twain delivered a lot of great messages that are still making a difference for people today.

Embrace humor.

“Humor is mankind’s greatest blessing.” – Mark Twain

Can you imagine a world without humor? It makes us joyful and causes laughter – so perhaps we should fill our daily lives with more of it.

There’s nothing wrong with facial wrinkles.

“Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.” – Mark Twain

In our society, we’re continuously trying to fight the signs of aging, particularly wrinkles. But to look at them in a different light – they’re also permanent reminders of all the good times we had! How beautiful is that?

Practice kindness.

“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” – Mark Twain

Kindness is easily recognizable and is one of the ways we can all connect in this world. So, practice it. Twain also pointed out that being kind makes us feel good inside as well.

“The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.” – Mark Twain

Stop holding onto anger.

“Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.” – Mark Twain

Anger is a natural feeling when you’ve been hurt, but it’s one that should be set free. You’re inflicting harm on yourself emotionally when you harbor anger.

Live your life to the fullest.

“Life is short, break the rules. Forgive quickly, kiss slowly. Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that makes you smile.” – Mark Twain

We should be enjoying every beautiful moment of life and trying the things we’ve always wanted to. After all, it’s short, and isn’t happiness what it’s all about?

Try and focus on positive thoughts.

“Drag your thoughts away from your troubles… by the ears, by the heels, or any other way you can manage it.” – Mark Twain

It can be easy to let our minds wander and dwell on the things that we’re worried about or upset over. However, it’s important to not let your head stay filled with negativity – because it typically doesn’t solve our troubles anyways. As Twain seems to suggest, do what you can to refocus yourself!

Accept that people don’t always have the best reactions to a “new idea.”

“A person with a new idea is a crank until the idea succeeds.” – Mark Twain.

Surely even some of the greatest inventors received negative feedback from others when they first introduced new ideas. However, sometimes it just takes time and shouldn’t necessarily mean the towel should be thrown in. According to the Quotationize website, it’s natural for humans to scoff, reject, or oppose something they themselves didn’t think of.

Being truthful is so much simpler.

“If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.” – Mark Twain.

It’s unfortunate that people lie in this world, but they do. Ironically though, not only is it morally right to always tell the truth – it makes things a lot less complicated when you do.
