When this Iowa State CY-Hawk fan made this funny sign, he never thought his Venmo would explode with donations.
When Carson King, 23, held up a sign saying “Busch Light supply needs replenished~Venmo~Carson-King-25” at an ESPN College Gameday live broadcast, he didn’t think he’d get a dime, let alone tens of thousands of dollars.
People immediately took a liking to the sarcastic sign, and the money started pouring in. What started off as a joke, quickly turned into something bigger.
“Pretty simple, hoped to get a couple of bucks, just to buy a couple beers.” King told KCRG News.
Carson decided he would do something charitable with the donations, after that, the donations skyrocketed.
Carson quickly realized he had a chance to actually do something really good. He decided that he would give the money to The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The hospital is across from the stadium, known for the “wave,” where the players and fans wave at the children during home games. Once it became something for a good cause, even more, donations flooded in.
The donations sprung from $10,000, to $35,000, to $50,000, all the way up to $75,000! Carson was beside himself, little did he know, some big companies were also taking notice of his unique charitable donation.
Busch Light and Venmo take notice of Carson’s charitable actions. The hilarious sign doesn’t hurt either, “Busch Light supply needs replenished~Venmo~Carson-King-25.”
After the story went viral, Busch Light posted on twitter telling Carson not only would they match him, but they would also throw in the Busch light he was initially searching for! Twitter followed suit shortly after.

Since the two companies have agreed to match Carsons $75,000, the donations for The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital are now a whopping $225k.
