The real magic of these beef stroganoff sammies doesn’t just come from the delicious meat and sour cream sauce but lies in the bursts of fresh flavor that come from both the meat and the fresh veggie topping combined. Oh, and we can’t forget about the cheese! Any good melting cheese will do, depending on what you have to hand or are feeling in the mood for.

Basically, when you’ve got all the right ingredients it’s nearly impossible to go wrong. Even better news, you probably already have most of the ingredients to hand. Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 3 subs cut in half (use dinner rolls and double the recipe for sliders and party appetizers)

  • 1 minced medium onion
  • 2 minced cloves of garlic (more if you happen to be AWESOME and LOVE garlic)
  • 2/3rds of a Cup of Sour Cream
  • 1 Tblsp. Worcestershire Suace
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1/2 each chopped Bell Pepper and Tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 Cups of Shredded Cheddar or Provolone cheese (or any other tasty cheese to hand)

Once you have everything you’ll need gathered into one place, it’s time to get down to the saucy business of whipping up your beef stroganoff.

You can start by preheating your oven to 350° and laying your sliced subs or sliders on a baking sheet. If you want a meal that’s even easier to clean up after, you can line your baking sheet with parchment paper.

Once your oven is up to temp, go ahead and slide in your baking sheet and bake your bread until it is just slightly toasted. In the meantime, we can get started with the meat.

While your bread is toasting, you can save yourself some time by beginning the cooking process on the ground beef. Before you dump your beef into the pan, you are going to want to first carmelize your onions and garlic.

To get that drool-worthy caramelized flavor in your stroganoff, start by first sauteing your minced onions. In a pan heated over medium-high heat add your olive oil and onions and cook for about 2 or 3 minutes before adding your garlic.

Continue to cook until the onion begins to turn translucent.

After your onions have just started to caramelize, you can add the ground beef directly to the pan. Using the edges and back of your spatula, break up your beef as it cooks until it has a minced-like texture. You will want to continue to cook the ground beef until it has fully browned and is no longer pink in color.

Once it has been fully cooked, drain the excess fat in a strainer over a bowl before returning the meat to the pan. Season the beef with salt and pepper to your taste.

After your ground beef, onion, and garlic mixture has been fully cooked, drained, and seasoned, it’s time to add in the sour cream.

Simply pour the sour cream directly into your pan with the hamburger mixture, and remove from heat. Mix the sour cream and Worcestershire sauce into the meat mixture thoroughly until a nice sauce has formed.

When you’re done mixing, take your toasted bread slices and load each one up with a nice heap of your stroganoff.

Now that you have your beef stroganoff sandwiches assembled, go ahead and place them back in the preheated oven.

The only real goal here is to get your cheese to the perfect point of mad melty goodness. It should only take between 5 to 7 minutes before it’s nice and gooey. If you like a little burn on top of your cheese, you can leave it in a minute or two longer, or go ahead and broil the top for a minute.

There you have it! Quick, easy, and full of flavor, these beef stroganoff sandwiches will be a favorite amongst family, friends, and potluck goers alike. Just be sure to set one or two aside for yourself, because they will go fast!
