If someone were to ask you how you felt about ballroom dancing, chances are you’d either shrug and admit you don’t know much about it, or laughingly confess you think it old-fashioned and that it isn’t something that would interest you at all. But what if the topic shifted to the 90s and 2000s, particularly the music of both decades?
Talk about engaging. Discussing the music of the 90s and 2000s would make for quite a lengthy and interesting conversation. After all, there are just too many awesome genres and artists that made both decades unforgettable.
The music is precisely what makes it possible to combine traditional ballroom dancing with modern beats across genres. Kind of hard to picture, isn’t it? At the 2014 World Formation Latin, a group of professional ballroom dancers who call themselves DUET Perm allowed us to witness just how seamless the fusion of both could be.
A fun, choreographed number with a medley of 90s and 2000s hits for their audio backdrop, the team of Russian dancers put on an unforgettable show, wowing the crowd, judges, and even the rest of the dancers watching from the audience.
The men and women of DUET Perm grooving to the string of hits looked like they brought a musical to life, with their black and white costumes, animated facial expressions, and impressive, dramatic movements.
Some of the hits you may recognize from the dance production include “Ice Ice Baby”, “Can’t Touch This”, “Crazy in Love”, “One of Us”, “Mercy”, “Rolling in the Deep”, “We Are Young”, and even two upbeat tracks from High School Musical!
Talk about creative song choices. The unlikely pairing of modern tracks and ballroom dancing worked, thanks to the exceptionally talented group who kept in time with each other throughout the performance.
Gliding, swirling, and moving swiftly across the dance floor, the group made competitive ballroom dancing look like a party. You’ll definitely change your mind about the timeless dance form when you watch how these dancers killed it.
