Barbeques might just be the best thing to ever happen in someone’s backyard on a summer evening. You are hanging out with good friends, drinking good beer or rosé, and throwing heaps of good food on the grill. Shrimp, corn, watermelon, hamburgers and hot dogs? Yep, you can sign us up!
You might think that it doesn’t get any better than that. What more could you possibly need besides good drink, food, and company? Well, this man knew how to turn a barbeque into a beautiful proposal back in 2013 on a warm August evening, which went viral after it was shared on the Internet.
It was August 10th, 2013 in Lindenhurst. Nothing going on, just a regular day in the neighborhood. A handful of friends were gathering in a spacious backyard to hang out, play a few rounds of beer pong and listen to some tunes, thinking they were in for a regular evening.
But while that was all happening, there was a group of people gathering in the front of the house… For what, though?
A couple named Courtney and Jaydee are in the backyard with all of their friends as this group continues to gather in the front. Maybe it seems a bit frightening at first, but the result is actually incredible.
Soon, the video cuts to a shot of Jaydee as he prepares to begin the flash mob proposal for his girlfriend. He explains how nervous he is — so nervous, his hand was trembling too much to even shoot a shot in beer pong. His heart was racing and he had to take several deep breaths as his friend reassured him that he would be okay.
While he prepares, he tells the people watching at home that he’s known his girlfriend for six years, “a long time,” he says. He continues to explain how they met, saying it actually was not love at first sight and that he was supposed to “hook up with her friend,” which of course he laughs about now as they ended up hitting it off instead.
“I’m shaking. Can you see my hands shaking?” he says again as he prepares the music for the flash mob.
Suddenly, as Courtney is still outside playing beer pong with her friends, they all get up and start dancing without her. They whip out a fully choreographed dance and Courtney just stands there watching in pure surprise.
Then they lead her to the front of the house where they shower her in flower petals. They continue to dance at the front of the house with even more people to “Marry You” by Bruno Mars.
Toward the end of the song, Jaydee came out the front door and revealed himself, slowly making his way down the stairs.
By the time he got to Courtney, he lingered for a minute and then finally popped the question, “Will you marry me?”
The video has gotten almost 3 million views, and for good reason. It is so sweet!
