Witnessing life-changing moments is priceless. There’s nothing in the world quite like seeing a person’s initial reaction at hearing good news and realizing significant progress has been made.
Carol Dianne Benjamin was willing to share one such moment on her Facebook page.
“As everyone knows, when Scarlet was born she was 3 months early. She ended up getting NEC (and certain stomach infection) and the antibiotics that she needed cause hearing loss. It has been a LONG and emotional experience. She reacted to most sounds so we thought she could hear fairly well. After what I witnessed today, it was not as well as I thought. Hearing aids make a WORLD of difference! I am so blessed and thankful for Atlanta Hearing Associates in Milledgeville for all that they have done for our baby girl. Anyway, enjoy one of the absolute best days of our lives. By the way, I’m crying, you’re crying, everyone is crying.”
To the viewer, it’s simply a happy ending and a moment of victory for the entire family.
To moms everywhere, it’s something else entirely.
Little Scarlet isn’t Carol’s first child. But see, moms don’t care about that.
Because no matter how many kids a mom has, she only wants one thing, and that is for all her kids to always be healthy and happy.
When a woman finds out she’s pregnant, she unintentionally stops worrying about herself. While she takes good care of herself by eating right, getting enough sleep, and taking the necessary prenatal vitamins and going for regular checkups, her mind and heart are now completely focused on the little one growing inside her. As each day passes, her prayers grow stronger and stronger.
And when it’s finally time to meet her precious angel, she holds her breath and waits to hear that first cry, for the doctor to tell her everything’s fine.
In Carol’s case, she and Scarlet had to go through quite a lot.

In order to keep Scarlet healthy, doctors had to prescribe certain antibiotics. While these were all to support Scarlet’s health, it, unfortunately, resulted in hearing loss.
Thankfully, all hope was not lost.
Scarlet was given hearing aids. You’d think it’s quite difficult to make babies wear them but since doctors are amazing and Carol was willing to do everything for Scarlet, it all turned out for the best. They tested the hearing aids with the help of Scarlet’s older sister who very eagerly initiated conversation with her baby sister.
Upon hearing her older sister’s voice, Scarlet’s face changed and she started giggling almost uncontrollably.
It was such a defining moment. Carol’s face was a mixture of shock and pure joy, and it took only seconds before she started crying.
Scarlet’s giggles filled the room, creating what can only be described as the happiest environment yet.
There were even instances wherein she would look back at her mom as if to say, “Mom, did you hear that?” To which Carol would respond by nodding, conversing, and encouraging her little one to listen once more.
Scarlet would even let out different sounds, reacting to each one adorably. Sometimes, she would even cry at hearing her own shrieks and her older sister’s yelps. There was such excitement and happiness at that moment that at one point, Carol had to remind Scarlet’s older sister to tone it down a bit as Scarlet was seemingly getting overwhelmed.
Nothing could top that day and that precious moment when Scarlet’s eyes lit up as she heard her sister’s voice for the first time.
