Has something ever been so funny that you laughed until it hurt? Have you ever laughed so much that everyone around you joined in the giggles? That’s the story behind this cute baby video featuring a child and a classic children’s toy.
Pop goes the weasel
The video opens showing a young baby sitting on a table. It’s a bright day outside and the child’s father can be seen holding the child while looking at them with loving caring eyes. You might notice the jack-in-the-box in the foreground as well as some child books just barely inside the shot.
Then a woman, that we can assume is the baby’s mother, winds the crank on the jack-in -the-box. She sings along with “Pop goes the weasel” while the baby watches enthralled. Anyone who’s owned these toys will know what happens next.
Just as the song reaches the ‘pop’ the lid on the toy pops open. The figurine springs forth with wide open arms directly facing the baby. We can’t see much of the toy from the camera’s perspective, but we can tell so much from the baby’s reaction.
The child’s face goes into a big wide smile. He loses his chill and breaks into a giggle. The giggle becomes a chuckle as he looks at his parents. Both parents join in the deep belly laugh while the baby just laughs and laughs for the rest of the video.
The video only lasts 25 seconds, but shows a sincerely warm bonding moment between a baby and his parents. The description said it was their son’s first time seeing such a toy, so we can imagine how surprising it was. But rather than crying or squeaking in fright, their son just laughs it off. It’s almost like they were having fun with the surprise and his joy pulled his parents along for the ride.
The power of laughter
Let’s be honest. The baby’s reaction to the toy is adorable. It’s fun to see a child interact with something new in such a positive light. But would you believe that this video is a great example of a healthy child and awesome parenting?
Jack-in-the-boxes are jump scare toys. Even if you’ve seen the toys before, the fun is as much about anticipating the toy’s pop as it is about the jump scare itself. It’s the same reason why some people enjoy the first rise in roller coasters more than the roller coaster itself. Besides, pop-scares are just fun!
When the toy popped and surprised the baby, you can bet that there was a small jump. But the baby’s deep felt and sincere belly laugh helped them cope with that moment of fear and reset everything back to normal. It also helps the baby relax without taking things too seriously.
Laughter also helps improve moods by keeping tension down and helping you connect to other people. So for this one moment of shared laughter, this family became closer than ever.
