A baby’s ability to learn new things is truly remarkable.
It seems like every day they are able to pick up a new skill and cement it firmly into their sponge-like baby brains for life.
But for one little baby, in particular, the task of trying to figure out exactly who her dad is is much more difficult than it is for most babies.
Because you see, her dad has an identical twin.
And when you’re as young as she is, that can be a tough concept to wrap your little head around.
Her dad and his brother find it very amusing to pass her back and forth and watch her try and figure out just who her real dad is.
The video starts with one of the brothers (I’m not even sure which one is her real dad) holding the cute baby girl in their arms.
He points at his identical brother and asks the girl, “Who’s that?”
The little girl takes a look and struggles with what she is seeing.
Up until that moment, she was convinced that she was already in her dad’s arms.
But when she looks at the man that is standing across from her, she can’t help but notice that this man looks just like her dad, too.
So, she points at him, says, “Dad,” and gets passed over.
When she is safely in the arms of her new apparent father, he reaches over and pulls the glasses off of his brother and points at him.
Once again, the little girl is asked, “Who’s that?”
And once again, she can’t believe what she is seeing.
Although she thinks that she is in her dad’s arms, she sees that her dad is actually standing across from her.
She points at him and says, “Dada,” while reaching out to be held by him.
Of course, everyone thinks this is adorable and hilarious and they all start to laugh.
And since it is so cute, they decide to try it one more time.
The man holding the little girl waits as his brother takes off his own glasses.
Then the bother holding the baby points and asks her who that man is.
She recognizes this man as her dad and quickly reaches over to be held by him.
But once she is in his arms, she looks back at the brother that had just passed her to him, and without any prompting this time, she points to him and says, “Dada.”
As an uncle myself, I can’t help but appreciate this moment.
I know that the little girl thinks that both of these men are her dad, but one day she will be old enough to tell the difference between them.
And when that happens, she’ll get to benefit from having a loving dad as well as a loving uncle–which is good.
Because according to a study in Behavioral Ecology, uncles were found to have a slightly positive impact in the survival rate of their nieces.
And lucky for this little girl, her dad and his brother seem to be very close.
In this way, everyone wins.
She gets to have a loving uncle in her life, and we get to watch her adorable confusion as she works out who is who.
