There are certain situations where it can be difficult to hold back your emotions. Whether you’re watching a sad movie or experiencing a touching event – sometimes the tears just come flooding out. Even young children can be so moved by a moment that they can’t control the waterworks.
For a two-year-old named Tyler, it was a song he heard at his sister’s piano recital that helped spark an emotional response. Get ready, because the footage below is simply heart-tugging.
Music can be a powerful thing. Listening to it can reduce stress, boost your mood, and soothe the soul. Music can also affect us deeply in other ways too.
Little Tyler attended the piano concert with his parents and was sitting on his dad’s lap. At one point during it, someone began playing Beethoven’s classic, “Moonlight Sonata.”
It was easy to see that the song was affecting Tyler, whose eyes welled up with tears. Even at such a young age, he was experiencing the power of music.
“Moonlight Sonata” (or “Piano Sonata No. 14”) is a haunting tune composed in 1801. According to Song Facts, Ludwig van Beethoven dedicated the piece to his 17-year-old student, the Countess Giulietta Guicciardi. It’s believed that his love for her was the song’s inspiration.
In the video, it appears that Tyler is trying to keep his emotions in. He sniffles and holds his mouth closed tight – as if he doesn’t want to burst out sobbing.
Tyler’s comforted by his dad who gently touches his arms and reassures him that “it’s okay.” But the boy can’t stop the strong reaction he’s having to the song.
With a runny nose and eyes full of tears, he somehow manages to keep his composure throughout the performance. For many of us, it can be difficult to keep the floodgate closed – so it’s pretty impressive.
The video of baby Tyler’s emotional reaction to “Moonlight Sonata” has been pulling on heartstrings since his dad posted it on YouTube. Many people have shared their similar experiences from childhood.
“honestly this was exactly how I was and felt the first time I heard this, I think I was 6 or 7. I remember vividly feeling some sort of emotion that I still can’t describe; sadness, sorrow, joy, and I do remember I cried as well. I’m now 25 and very much enjoy this masterpiece to this very day, and the feelings still haunt me. Hang in there kid, you’ll be just fine!”
For one commenter, it was a famous Christmas carol that triggered their tears.
“I was transported straight back to my 3rd grade year when sitting in my chorus class and I heard “Silent Night” for the first time and I just broke down. I didn’t know why and neither did anybody else in my class.”
A TV show theme song is what did the trick for someone else.
“Every time the t.v. show “Lassie” would air, when I was near this boy’s age, they’d play “Greensleeves” and I’d have the same reaction as he. Beautiful art stirs emotion beautifully.”
Some children seem to possess old souls. Despite only being two, it appears that Tyler already has an appreciation for the beauty of music. What an incredible thing that really is.
