David’s mom has never had the experience of answering her son’s questions. At least not until now. David has never before asked his Mom about anything.

The Question

David’s question was a simple one but one that is heart-wrenching. As he and his mom, Kerry were sitting watching television David asked: “Would someone like me?”

Mom’s Reaction

Kerry was first taken back that David even asked a question then immediately by the question that was asked.

To hide her emotions she left the room so David would not see her upset.

Kerry Gains Her Composure

Kerry soon returned to the room to answer David’s question.

She told him that there were thousands of people who would like him.

Kerry Speaks Out

She was so taken back by Davids’s question that she posted the incident on Twitter. This is not something that she normally does. Kerry shared the post with a few others on social media and was shocked by the response.

“What prompted him to reach out? I’m just curious if it was a new therapy (ie progress in his skills) or something else. Happy for you & him!!!! God bless y’all.”

Kerry Replied: Nothing new. Nothing changed. Just out of the blue. God answers prayers.

“I wish y’all were here in STL. I have a 22 yr old high functioning autistic son who has no friends he works n comes home n plays video games he’d love to have him as a friend. Keep the faith n don’t give up his speech may come out. They told me my son would never talk but he does”

“Hi Kerry. I am autistic. I asked my mom many questions in my life, but never the one that David asked you. I know what my mom would like to tell me, but I am afraid the truth is different. I think she will always be the only person who likes me simply because she is my mom”

Kerry Replied: You sound like an amazing person. I’m sure many people besides your mom like you. I do and so does David. God bless you

Since he has been getting responses David insists on replying to every one of them. He now wears a smile constantly and considers everyone who messages him to be a friend.

Kerry thinks that David wants to make sure nobody feels left out and that David understands how this feels.
