Long distance can be really difficult for couples, especially married ones. This can be even tougher on relationships when the cause of the separation is related to military obligations, keeping a married couple apart for months or even years.
Family physician for the Texas Army National Guard, Joshua Splinter was away from his wife for five months after being deployed in Dijibouti.
And Djibouti is a long way from Texas!
…In fact it’s all the way over on the north-east side of Africa…
When Joshua returns home, he doesn’t just TELL his wife…
He decided to be a little bit more unpredictable… He chose to surprise his wife in her place of work. Alice being a pediatrician, Joshua decided to show up unannounced at her place of work, posing as a patient. That’s a lot of excitement, it must be really nerve-wracking to organize such a surprise like this all in secret.
“I’m totally hyped. I’m way more nervous than I though I would be”
According to T&T Creative Media, Joshua had to keep lying to Alice about being on Djibouti time during the 40 hour journey from Africa to Texas.
I think we can count that as a loving white lie!
Joshua starts off visibly anxious about the ambush he’s about to give his wife.
How will she react? Joshua of course couldn’t have pulled it off without a little help from someone on the inside. His friend also works at the same children’s hospital as Alice, and helps to organize the surprise. Apparently he is a good friend who just wants to help the couple to have a memorable reunion. Before he goes to call Alice in he can’t contain himself-
“I’m so excited!”
And he does look excited!
One awkward moment…
While Joshua and his handy friend are waiting in the room however, there is one tense and somewhat awkward moment when they are joined by not Alice…but a nurse. Joshua’s doctor friend quickly steps in to whisper something to her, probably telling her to leave! Or it could be to fetch Alice…maybe there is more than one accomplice?
Finally the moment of truth arrives.
The friend leaves the room and Joshua is left in the room alone, looking VERY nervous. The nervous grin on his face is truly adorable however. This man can’t wait to see his wife again!
The look on her face when she sees him!
It takes Alice a second to register that it’s not a sick child’s face she’s looking at, but her own husband’s. But when she does, she melts! If you look carefully you can see the intruding nurse from earlier watching the whole thing. Perhaps she is in on it!
And the couple are reunited again, Alice cannot keep her hands off!
Of course, there is another small awkward moment when Joshua’s doctor friend can’t decide to stay or go, so tries to sneakily escape the room to give them some privacy. Joshua however, doesn’t let him go so easily…
