Anica, a powerhouse singer from Grand-Barachois, N.B., took the stage on Canada’s Got Talent and left everyone in awe.
Despite her life’s challenges, including growing up in nine different foster homes, she stood proudly on stage, radiating joy and confidence.
Music became her solace after receiving a guitar from her final foster family, helping her cope with the difficulties she had experienced.
Reflecting on how music shaped her, Anica shared, “It helped me make sense of everything I’d been through.”
She’s been performing for over 40 years, and during her audition, she proved just how much of an inspiration she is, particularly for those who have endured hardship.
“I want people to know that it’s perfectly okay to be happy, even after going through tough times,” she said.
Anica’s performance of “Unstoppable” by Sia was nothing short of electric.
She brought her own unique spin to the song, strumming her acoustic guitar and belting out notes that could rival any rock legend.
In fact, many people feel she reminds them of Janis Joplin!
The audience couldn’t help but clap along, captivated by her raw talent and incredible stage presence.
The energy in the room was contagious, and Anica made it clear she wasn’t just performing for herself—she was sharing her story, showing others that no matter what life throws at you, you can still find happiness and success.
“I realized as I got older that none of what happened was my fault,” she said.
“I was surrounded by a sea of dysfunctionality, and I could see the shoreline. You have to believe in yourself and your journey to get there.”
Her words and her music struck a chord with the audience and the judges alike.
The show’s host, Lindsay Ell, was deeply moved, particularly because of her own life experiences.
“I remember being backstage with Lindsay, and we had this moment,” Anica recalled. “She’s been through a lot too, and we connected in that way.”
Anica’s performance was powerful, both vocally and emotionally.
Her connection to the music and the message she delivered resonated throughout the theater.
By the time she finished singing, the crowd and the judges were on their feet, applauding her in admiration.
The chants of “Golden Buzzer” echoed in the air, and it wasn’t long before Lindsay Ell made her way to the judges’ table.
As Anica stood there, overwhelmed with emotion, Lindsay spoke words that meant the world to her.
“As someone who is a survivor and has also been through so much in her childhood, I know what it is like to go through difficulty and be able to channel it into something like music,” Lindsay said, further deepening the connection between the two.
In an unforgettable moment, golden confetti rained down on Anica as Lindsay pressed the Golden Buzzer, cementing her place as a standout on the show.
Anica, visibly moved, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to everyone who had supported her along the way.
Through her music and her story, Anica proved she truly is “unstoppable,” inspiring countless others to believe in their own journeys.
