Anheuser-Busch has stopped their brewing operations at its Cartersville, Georiga brewery. But fear not beer drinkers… it’s for a very good cause!
The company periodically stops beer production at this plant to can water for American communities in need and has recently sent more than 155,000 cans of clean drinking water to Texas and Louisiana residents affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Anheuser-Busch, which produces famous beers like Stella Artois and Budweiser, partnered with the American Red Cross to deliver the truckloads of water to Baton Rouge, LA and Arlington, TX.
“Putting our production and logistics strengths to work by providing safe, clean drinking water is the best way we can help in these situations,” Anheuser-Busch Vice President of Community Affairs Bill Bradley said in a press release.
Hurricane Harvey, which touched down on the Gulf Coast on Saturday, is still continuing to wreak havoc and displace individuals as flood water rise requiring towns to evacuate.
It’s estimated that more than 30,000 individuals will be placed in temporary shelters and that there will be more than 450,000 registers of disaster victims, according to ABC News.
Anheuser-Busch has three facilities in Houston which includes about 1,100 employees who are all reported to be safe.
They are monitoring the situation as these facilities as the rain and weather changes.
“The safety of our colleagues is paramount and we are proud of the work our Houston team has done over the weekend to keep our team safe in these difficult and exceptional circumstances,” Bradley said.
Anheuser-Busch often provides water to communities during natural disasters and has provided more than 76 million cans of drinking water since 1988. In 2016 alone they shipped emergency drinking water to California during wildfires, flooded Louisana areas, and during Hurricane Matthew.
MillerCoors is also working with the Red Cross to deliver clean water to Hurricane Harvey victims and has shipped 50,000 cans of drinking water from its Shenandoah, Virginia brewery.
The Chicago based beer brewery launched its first water program this summer with a donation of cans to flood victims in Southwestern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois in July, according to ABC 7.
Several other American corporations have also pledged to pitch in to help hurricane relief efforts. Bayer will donate $100,000 to the American Red Cross and $100,000 to Direct Relief. Facebook is matching up to $1 million in donated funds that will go to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund.
