Now, I’m not a proponent of revenge, but sometimes the universe just happens to work in your favor. Occasionally, you experience a moment where you see karma working first-hand. It’s as if all the planets suddenly align with the pure purpose to put a jerk back in their place. Last year, Chris Smith, a man from Adelaide, South Australia, experienced just that.

Chris Smith is an engineer who captured the perfect example of instant karma while he was driving around the Adelaide city center.

The footage was captured on the dashboard camera of his company vehicle. And, after being uploaded to YouTube, garnered a whopping 6 million views in the span of only three days. In an interview with Adelaide Now, Chris said he often drives with a dashboard camera: “It provides some protection if it comes down to your words against someone else’s.” This time, however, it may have captured something even better.

In the footage, you see Chris stop at an intersection where a man and his dog have begun to cross.

In the video description, Chris explained:

“Whilst leaving the office in the city, I came up to a set of traffic lights that had just turned red, so I stopped (just like I normally would).”

“However, a pedestrian about to cross at the lights thought I stopped too quickly and made a few gestures towards me, then he gave me fingers!”

Seeing Chris approach (perhaps too fast for his liking), the man starts yelling and gesturing aggressively at the engineer with his hands.

Then, in a hilarious moment that has been viewed by millions, as the man glares and yells at Chris, he walks face-first into a light pole.

“Just as he did that, BANG, he walks into a pole,” Chris wrote.

“He saw me laughing and then came towards the car.”

“Fortunately, he turned and walked off, I guess in total embarrassment.”

After capturing the hilarious footage, Chris and his colleagues at the office spent the next day crowded around his desk, replaying the video and laughing harder with each view. Finally, someone suggested he upload the footage to YouTube, where it immediately went viral. Chris told Adelaide Now:

“It got shared and shared and shared… I spent an hour or two deleting emails from YouTube that were sent every time someone commented on the video.”

“My kids were more getting a kick out of it, giving me updates on how many views and subscribers [it had].”

Since his video went viral, Chris has become a bit of a local celebrity. “One of the funniest things that happened was a friend of mine has made a T-shirt saying ‘I know Chris Smith,” he revealed.

Chris’s video remains the perfect example of instant karma.

It’s hard not to love seeing a mean person get exactly what they have coming to them. Comments on the video read:

“My sympathies to the dog that puts up with him every day.”

“Why is he so angry?”

“The driver was not laughing half as loud as I would have been.”

“I bet the dog even chuckled.”
