If there’s one thing that can be expected to happen on the day of a wedding it’s drama. No matter how picture-perfect of a day you envisioned in your mind, something is always bound to go down during a wedding.

If you made it through your wedding with no uncomfortable incidents between family members, count yourself lucky. While a wedding day is supposed to be a celebration of mutual love, animosity and bitterness often lurks under the surface.

A nightmarish mother-in-law

For many of us, family drama can be smoothed over on the big day, and guests keep their snide remarks to themselves – mostly. But for one couple in San Jose, California, the bride’s mother-in-law was unable to keep her mouth shut during the ceremony, and interrupted their wedding vows with a hostile remark.

In the video, the bride and groom can be seen facing one another at the altar while the bride reads out her pre-written vows.

The vows

She finishes by telling her soon-to-be husband that she loves all of his flaws, then folds up her paper, smiling lovingly at him.

Things take a turn…

It’s here when the ceremony stops running smoothly, and we hear the bride’s mother in law snap,

“You’re not going to say my son has flaws.”

An awkward moment

This remark is met with awkward laughter, but soon escalates into something bigger. Someone tells the mother in law to leave, and she shouts,

“No! I don’t have to leave! This dress you’re wearing, we paid for it!”

An unhappy mother-in-law

There’s obviously something going on behind the scenes here between the bride and the mother-in-law. But no matter what it is, creating a scene on what is supposed to be the happiest day of the couple’s lives wasn’t a kind move.

Chaos ensues when the bride gets involved

As everyone hushes the mother-in-law and tells her to calm down, the bride somehow manages to keep her cool. She says,

“You’re not going to ruin my day. Everybody has flaws, and that’s why I love him.”

The mother in law responds,

“Yeah, like you don’t have flaws.”

The claws are out

It’s a catty remark, and the bride decides she’s had enough. She steps forward, telling her mother-in-law to get out of her wedding, while the groom watches on helplessly. The mother-in-law retorts that she’s not leaving, and someone steps forwards to tell her to get out. The angry woman replies:

“I’m not getting out. Try, and I’ll have you arrested.”

The brides sister filmed everything

Footage of the incredibly awkward situation was shared to TikTok by the bride’s sister, Sarah Ragsdale. She wrote:

“My sister’s wedding a few years ago. Her MIL has always hated her. She’s just [one] of those MILs that feel my sister is taking her son away.”

In a second video, the son can be heard saying:

“You have the flaws right now. You don’t know how to act like an adult.”

A woman then pushes the mother in law to her seat and says,

“Excuse me, this is not your day, this is not about you. She’s in love with your son, accept it.”

Soothing her soon-to-be-husband

At the end of the video, the bride can be seen grasping the groom’s hands and whispering in his ear. According to Sarah, she said, “It’s just about us, forget about her.”

After the ceremony had finished, the mother-in-law reportedly started up again when the family headed outside to take pictures. Talk about a nightmare wedding guest! Hopefully the pair were still able to enjoy their big day and ignore the rude interruptions.

We hope that was the last of the mother-in-law drama for the couple but we have a feeling that was only the beginning of their future life together.
