Having a baby can be both joyous and nerve-racking. It takes a toll on the human body that has lasting effects. But it’s easily balanced out by the excitement of creating life and meeting your bundle of joy.
Pregnancies can also be quite difficult. Some women are fortunate enough to have easy, uneventful pregnancies while others face varying complications.
At the end of the day, we all hope for the safe delivery of the baby and a healthy recovery for the mother.
A woman who shared her story with Love What Matters, had a whirlwind of all of these things.
She was on her third pregnancy and was prepared for what was to come.
The woman had two boys from a previous relationship. One 13-year-old and another was 9-year-old.
But she was married now and she and her husband wanted to have a bundle of joy of their own. This proved to be troubling as she needed to be on fertility treatments if she wanted to become pregnant again.
She wrote:
“I’d had 2 surgeries the previous year to remove a very large mass from my uterus and I almost ended up with a hysterectomy, but I was incredibly lucky the surgery was a success.”
When she discovered she was pregnant, she couldn’t believe it! To be sure, she spent over $50 on pregnancy tests to be sure.
“I was so in love with whoever was already growing inside me.”
Her pregnancy was just like the pregnancies before. She suffered from what she referred to as “all-day sickness.”
At 13-weeks she discovered that she was having a girl. She was in shock because she was certain it was a boy.
“I didn’t know how to be a girl mom, but after my initial shock wore off, I was SUPER excited to learn!”
The baby continued to grow healthy in her belly. She also seemed to be in great health. Her due date came and went. But this was normal for her. Her two boys missed their due dates as well. She didn’t think much of it.
But when she went to her OB for her last visit, she could tell something was wrong.
“I can’t find any amniotic fluid,” he said.
He diagnosed her with Oligohydramnios.
Oligohydramnios is a lack of amniotic fluid that can lead to birth defects, miscarriage, and even stillbirth.
Still, the baby showed no signs of anything being wrong. Until one day, something felt off. She went to the hospital where hysteria ensued.
During her visit, her nurse quickly pressed the emergency button sending several people rushing into her room.
The baby’s heart rate had dropped and she needed a c-section immediately. The woman had never had a c-section before and was worried. But it was her only option. The baby needed to come out.
One of the nurses even warned that the baby could be born brain dead.
During the procedure, the woman repeated to herself:
“Please be okay, little one, please.”
Suddenly, she heard a cry.
When she was born, all she could think was how tiny she was! She was 6lbs and 6oz and healthy!
The woman named the girl Winter Josephine.
One thing that stood out to her though was how angry her daughter looked.
Everybody seemed to notice!
“Everyone that saw her said the exact same thing. ‘She looks so mad!’”
“As perfect as she was, I couldn’t help but laugh because she looked so angry,” she wrote.
But she and her husband were completely fine with it because she was healthy.
“She continues to make the angriest faces and they are absolutely hilarious. I have never met a baby with more personality.”
She even says that strangers get a chuckle from her expressions as well.
We’re happy that their little family is doing so well! What a journey!
