Instead of simply being placed in a cast, the man developed Reflex Sympathetic Syndrome (or RSD), a rare nerve disorder that causes intense, burning pain.

According to the New York State Department of Health, RSD is a type of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) that is triggered by tissue injury, including sprains, fractures, and surgery. Sadly, we don’t know much about its causes, and there currently isn’t a cure.

Kevin wasn’t too worried when he got his diagnosis. “I didn’t really think much about it. I’m strong,” he told KJTV. But within the next few months, he’d learn RSD was a formidable opponent. Doctors would soon tell Kevin he had the worst case of RSD they’d ever seen. He was being admitted to the hospital for extended treatment periods nearly every 30 days.

To put an end to the man’s suffering, doctors amputated his leg, leaving him wheelchair-bound.

Despite everything that had happened, Kevin never once complained. “The way I look at is it could always be worse,” he said. But still, he was lonely. Kevin was self-conscious about his wheelchair and didn’t think he’d ever find someone who could look past it.

Then, in October of 2012, he met Kim Didway, who brushed every insecurity away.

“The first time I saw her, it was love at first sight,” he recalled. In the video, she calls Kevin “the most amazing human being” and says his enormous heart makes up for any lacking limbs. The couple was deeply in love when Kevin proposed and Kim excitedly said ‘yes!’

Unbeknownst to his now fiancé, Kevin started attending physical therapy lessons. He wanted to learn to walk to surprise her on their wedding day.

“Whenever the preacher says, ‘Everybody, please stand,” I’m going to stand up … I’m going to walk to her,” he told KJTV.

“I’m going to make it the best day of her life.”

Kim is already emotional as her father walks her down the aisle, but the moment Kevin stands and approaches her will instantly melt your heart.

Since being uploaded to YouTube, Kevin’s surprised has been viewed over 11 million times. It’s incredibly moving to see his strength and what the power of love can do:

“That’s a flipping heart touching story… I’d have to interrupt that wedding and start throwing down some tearful hugs!”

“This is amazing and happy also sad crying he has something worse than me I’m diabetic but I’m speechless.”

“Good thing I wasn’t at that wedding because I would have been crying and blubbering so hard I would get escorted out lol”

“Wow! I bawled! Not gonna lie! This is amazing.”

I am just mind-blown by this man’s love and dedication. If his actions are any indication into the state of their future marriage, my guess is that they will each be very well taken care of. What do you think about Kevin’s surprise? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
