One of the scariest situations to imagine is coming face-to-face with a wild animal, like a bear.
No matter how many times youโve been told to stay calm or make yourself look bigger, the reality is different when youโre staring at an animal that could easily overpower you.
Would you stand your ground, or would fear get the best of you?
For one Amazon delivery driver, that hypothetical situation became a reality.
He found himself in a frightening encounter while dropping off a package in Upland, California.
The moment wasnโt just imaginedโit was real, and the entire ordeal was captured on the homeownerโs Ring doorbell camera.
It all began when Josh, the homeowner, received an alert while at the mall with his family.
The alert came through his Ring app, letting him know something was moving around his property.
At first, it seemed like nothing out of the ordinaryโuntil he saw a bear casually walking down his driveway.
Joshโs concern immediately spiked when he noticed an Amazon delivery driver making his way to his house at the exact same time.
With his phone in hand, Josh quickly used the Two-Way Talk feature on his Ring Video Doorbell to warn the driver about the danger lurking nearby.
As the driver continued approaching the driveway, he remained unaware of the bear until Joshโs voice came through loud and clear.
โStop right there, thereโs a bear there!โ
On the footage, you can see the moment of realization for the driver.
He freezes, finally spotting the bear, which was lurking on top of a nearby wall, watching him closely.
At first, the driver steps back slightly, clearly surprised.
But then, in a surprising twist, he doesnโt run.
Instead, he assesses the situation and decides to hold his ground.
You can see the tension in the video as the bear watches the driver, while the driver, in turn, does something that not everyone would have thought of in such a tense momentโhe raises his arms in the air to make himself appear larger.
The footage is gripping as the driver makes his stand.
While some people might have been paralyzed by fear or dashed back to the safety of their vehicle, this driver instinctively understood what to do.
By raising his arms, he followed a well-known tactic for deterring bears, which is to appear as large and intimidating as possible.
For a moment, you can almost feel the suspense as the bear decides what to do next.
To the relief of everyone watching, the bear makes its move.
But instead of charging, it hops down from the wall and scurries off into the neighborhood.
The driverโs quick thinking had worked.
The danger passed, and the bear, thankfully, wanted nothing to do with the brave Amazon worker.
Josh, who had been watching the entire encounter through his Ring app, later commented on how the driver handled the situation.
โIt seemed like [the driver] knew what to do and he kept calm. We were watching his exit the whole time to ensure he safely left,โ Josh explained.
It was clear that the delivery driverโs actions had not only impressed Josh but also reassured him that the situation was handled as safely as possible.
After the video was posted online, it quickly went viral.
People were blown away by how composed the driver had been in such a nerve-wracking moment.
