When a person mentions flash mobs, many minds go to straight to malls and relevant pop culture songs. That is because many flash mobs that have gone viral are big productions with a dance number attached to a trendy song. Well, one group that was organizing a flash mob had a different idea.
They created a flash mob to the beautiful song “Amazing Grace.”
One group planned a flash mob to the classic “Amazing Grace” and it is not only their song choice that was unique for the event, it was also their location. This flash mob, with twenty-eight people, took their performance to the halls of the Dutch Parliament Building. The location they chose was in the Binnenhof, within The Hague.
This building is commonly known as the “second chamber” and houses the House of Representatives for the Dutch government.
It started, as every flash mob does, as if nothing was about to happen. The area was not too crowded but did have people walking around and sitting. Before any singers started to sing, a solo trumpet player starts to play the song. Once the trumpet player plays for a few seconds, he pauses, and the flash mob begins.
Five women start to sing the beautiful words of “Amazing Grace.”
“Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
T’was blind but now I see”
The five women sing the first part solely on their own. Their voices are so gorgeous and harmonize well together. The halls are ringing with their voices and they start to form an audience.
With such amazing voices it is not surprising that people started to watch.
The trumpet player resumes playing the song and other members of the flash mob start to slowly walk closer to join. These five women originally sang the first part in English, but when the others join it takes a different turn. The rest of the flash mob sings “Amazing Grace” in Dutch!
While many will not understand the language, this beloved song transcends languages. You can hear the passion through the power of their voices. Viewers find themselves entranced into the performance even if they do not understand the language.
Once every member of the flash mob has joined the video pans to their audience and the audience has grown immensely! There are three floors in the area they are singing, and all three floors have people watching the amazing performance. The views from upper floors are amazing as many watch the flash mob performance from above.
No one wants to miss out on watching these angelic singers and trumpet player perform their rendition of “Amazing Grace.”
At the completion of their performance they receive a well-deserved round of applause. The members of the flash mob sang so beautifully and did not miss a note. The singers know they did a great job because they all have the biggest smiles on their faces!
If there is any place that needs to hear the words of “Amazing Grace” it is at government institutions. While this flash mob might not be “trendy,” it was a must needed flash mob for many viewers. The video has been viewed over 7 million times! Sometimes, it is always best to refer to the classics, such as “Amazing Grace”, instead of trying to be current.
