Maybe this has happened to you before. You’re out shopping and you have heavy bags of your latest purchases in your arms. You head over to a new shop, but the street is blocked. Many shoppers have stopped in the middle of the street, and you wonder why. Then you hear it; the voice, the guitar, the music of a street musician. But you realize this is not your run of the mill singer asking for a handout, this voice is something special and different.
Everyone is stopping in the street to hear this unique voice.
Her name is Allie Sherlock and she’s got a talent that rises above the rest.
Allie Sherlock sings
Allie Sherlock burst onto the scene when a video of her singing Ed Sheeran‘s Supermarket Flowers, went viral. Soon she was on the Ellen show and now she’s a household name. There’s a reason for this. The twelve-year-old (at the time of this video) has a unique voice that melts your soul.
Allie is from Douglas, a suburb in Cork, Ireland.
She began singing and playing guitar at a young age and her dad knew something was special about his daughter. They began uploading videos to her Youtube Channel and that’s when they realized they weren’t alone in thinking this young lady was special.
Perfect by Ed Sheeran
In this video, Allie covers Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect.” A song that has been a huge hit for Sheeran, reaching number one on the charts in sixteen different countries.
Sheeran’s spoke of the tune in an interview with Zane Lowe.
With “Perfect,” it was like, ‘I need to write the best love song of my career.’”
Grafton Street was turned into a pedestrian street in 1983
Busking on Dublin’s Grafton Street has been a right of passage for many of Ireland’s talented singers and songwriters. You can always tell the wheat from the chaff when the busy shoppers are swept away by the performance and they forget that they were busy shopping. Grafton Street is a wildly popular shopping street located in the heart of Dublin. And like most wildly popular places, many people go there to see and be seen.
Popular artists have spent time busking on Ireland’s premier shopping street
Artists like Glen Hansard, Damien Rice, and U2’s Bono. So Allie is in good company, and she’s set to skyrocket into popularity with videos like this.
Grafton Street Tradition
Glen Hansard of The Swell Season holds an annual Christmas eve impromptu busking session on Grafton Street, where he invites famous singers to take part. In 2019, Bono returned to Grafton Street for the benefit concert. That year also had Sinead O’Connor onstage. Each year the proceeds benefit a charity to help the homeless. It has become a celebrated Grafton Street Holiday tradition.
Youtubers are showering Allie with positive comments.
