Military men and women coming back from deployment always results in an incredibly emotional moment, especially when it’s an early homecoming and thus a little bit of a surprise.
There have been tons of fantastic and unique early returns out there, such as dressing up as a school mascot or surprising your daughter in front of a high school football game, for example.
However, this surprise orchestrated by Captain Hyrum Bronson and one of his close friends is definitely one of the coolest homecoming surprises around.
The reaction of his family will just absolutely melt your heart.
Captain Bronson works as a doctor for the US Air Force and was scheduled to be deployed for six months in Afghanistan. The captain’s family thought that he still had three weeks left of his deployment before he would be able to return home – but he was able to get return a little bit earlier.
Captain Bronson’s wife Bethany thought that she wouldn’t see her husband for another three weeks. She stayed on a United States military base in Okinawa Island, Japan along with their four children.
A friend of the deployed airman was also around on the base and decided to help him out to orchestrate a surprise homecoming.
The friend convinced Bethany and the four children to enjoy the weather and take a swim at one of the beautiful shores. The Pacific Ocean is great for snorkeling and taking deep dives, and the family definitely seemed to enjoy their time off in the beautiful blue water.
A bit later, the friend took out his (hopefully waterproof) camera and told the family that he would record a message and send it to Captain Bronson via Facebook.
The friend directed his attention towards one of the daughters, Charity.
“What would you say to your daddy if he was here now?” the man asked. Charity’s reply is as heartwarming as it is cute: “I will love him for always.”
Bethany was splashing around with their other daughter Lucy, and the friend asked her what she would say to her husband if he were here right now.
“Love you! Miss you!” Bethany replied. “I want your body,” she also said jokingly.
Captain Bronson’s friend then told them that he would send the video over, but the man wasn’t planning on doing that at all. After all, he knew they were in for the surprise of their lives.
Just a couple of seconds later, something strange starts emerging out of the water. A man fully equipped with scuba diving gear was standing right behind them, and it took a couple of seconds before Bethany and the kids noticed.
Of course, this mysterious figure was none other than the Captain himself, who wanted to surprise his beautiful family with an early homecoming.
Bethany couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
“Are you freaking kidding me?” she almost shouted.
As you can imagine, all of them were completely overwhelmed with emotion and it truly makes for a fantastic reunion.
The couple’s children quickly shout “Daddy! Daddy!” and Captain Bronson couldn’t be any happier to return to his loved ones.
With his eyes focused on his wife, the airman tells her: “You get the first hug. Mrs Bronson, your husband’s here reporting for duty.”
The two lovebirds exchanged a very long and emotional hug and the kids quickly joined in as well.
Bethany decided to share the video captured by their friend on YouTube, where it quickly went viral with almost 20 million views.
“After being in Afghanistan for 6 months and 3 months of training in the States before that with only a short month home in between, he is finally home! We thought he was coming home 3 weeks from now, but he is sneaky. We can’t believe he is finally back home with us!” she wrote.
Such a pure, heartfelt moment and a wonderful surprise!
