Though she didn’t need a piece of paper or bureaucratic approval to prove it, Autumn Rose handed her stepmother adoption papers on Mother’s Day as an emotional gesture to show her gratitude for all that’s she’s done for her.
Autumn Rose is 20-year-old and after 17 years, she asked her stepmom to adopt her.
The beautiful gesture was captured on video and posted online where it’s now gone viral on the Love What Matters Facebook page with more than 1.7 million views.
It starts out with Autumn Rose’s stepmom reading a letter her stepdaughter wrote her.
“It’s no secret that you’ve gone through the ringer while trying to raise me as your own,” she wrote. “From endless battles with my mom to getting me through all the tough years, to being there for every good moment in my life.”
She went on to thank her stepmom for being there on her first days of school, showing her how to get ready, marrying her father, blessing her with two siblings, watching her graduate, sending her to college, and helping her with everything else along the way.
Both women wiped away tears as the stepmother read Autumn Rose’s letter.
“I can’t image being able to have gone through life without your support,” she goes on. “I know you don’t hear it often, but I’m so thankful and appreciative that you’ve always dealt with it and continue to inspire and support me.”
Autumn Rose wanted to show her step mom how proud she was that she was her stepdaughter and handed her a box. Autumn Rose’s stepmother opened the box and pulled out a beautiful blanket and envelope.
The stepmother places the blanket over her and opens the envelope and starts to cry realizing what the papers were.
“I love you,” the stepmother said as she hugged Autumn Rose tight.
